Hood comments...

Heard it...he's a good kid...certainly a VFL...played to the best of his ability while here...

Butch Jones still is more of a trumpet player than a football coach...his record & decision making show it...

Bring on the "gets it" crowd to pump sunshine...

Not sure if there is a disconnect for you an many others regarding the mechanics of football...
This staff developed a QB , almost won a big game , and then won a big game . Then he got hurt
We have been starting a freshman QB since and since we have been starting a freshman ...we have not been able to score
Occasionally a freshman QB will do great ..but most of the time , they will do exactly what you are seeing Dobbs do. He may in fact end up being a great QB one day ..but for now he is very limited .

Too bad we didn't have Brian Kelly first before butch, like all his previous stops. It's not going to work out like those times, this is a different level of football. Double digit win seasons are not in the nearest future.

I don't believe anyone has come close to answering the original poster's question, so I will take a stab at it. I don't recall whether these specific comments were made by Hood or not, since Tim Priest was posing similar questions to a number of upperclassmen regarding whether they believed that a "culture change" had, indeed, been achieved by Butch Jones this year and, at the same time, kind of gauging their confidence level in Butch under the circumstances. All of the players whose interviews I heard answered affirmatively and reiterated that they believed strongly that Butch will, in time, turn the program around. Cynics will, of course, retort "what would you expect from players in a public forum like a radio broadcast?"

One senior, it may have been Hood but I do not remember with certainty, stated specifically that he wished he had two more years to play for Butch Jones. Admittedly, none of these remarks qualify as verbatim quotes but constitute my overall impression of responses to this line of questioning by Priest.

If Butch lives up to his original promise....to hire the best staff in U'merica, then I'd actually be on-board with both hands. He could have hired PROVEN coaches, like Auburn did with Ellis Johnson (highly regarded former USCjr DC). But he chose to bring his buds...and we see how that worked out.

Hart got juked by Jones with that statement, thinking he was going to HAVE to give him a BIG salary pot to hire THAT kind of staff. Jones knew all along he was just going to bring his old staff with him....and took that BIG salary pot to give his Big East level coaches an upper tier SEC raise.

Something kinda slimy/underhanded about that move. Had he stated in his presser that he was going to bring "those he trusted" with him, then I doubt very highly that Hart would have given Jones that kind of budget.

They would have had to earn it, first. Neither Coordinator has. If I'm a recruit, I'd be more convinced in UT's future if CBJ went big and hired a proven OC and DC (Baylor, Ariz.St, or OK State's OC +WR coach...and Stanford's DC)

How'd Malzahn do with Chizik's players?

Yep and there are other examples Mora at UCLA, Kelly at ND, the Arizona coach, Snyder going back to K State, there are lots of examples of marked improvement of one year turn a rounds.

Vandy isn't the same old **** hole team they use to be. Everyone acts like we just lost to GA southern . Vandy has won allot of games the last few years. We need more playmakers. When North went down we lost our only threat to catch a ball down the field. Our line can't run block so were screwed.

That's interesting, I guess we got 200+ yards rushing without the O-line.

from what i heard in the post game, this is an accurate account.

it is also true that Fulmer's players were very loyal to him, Kiffin's players were loyal to him, and at least early on Dooley's players were loyal to him. it is part of the culture, and imo does not indicate anything special about a coach.

the most telling tim priest quote that i heard saturday was about halfway through the 2nd quarter: "the entire TN team is sleepwalking through the first half." and this came after having two weeks of prep time.

This senior class does not have a lot of signature wins but they have laid a solid foundation that future players can build upon.

Back to the question posed by the original poster, I can now provide verbatim quotes of Hood's remarks:

The series of tough losses sustained by this senior class is "a burden that we’ll shoulder because we know that with Coach Jones, we’ve finally got the right coach here,” Hood said. “Every person in that locker room believes that 100 percent. So we’ll carry that burden so that in the future (Tennessee) can win championships. . . . I believe the culture is finally starting to change,” Hood said. “We are finally getting the right guys. We are finally are working the way a Tennessee program is supposed to work. We are starting to build the right foundation. Sometimes good things you have to wait for. Right now is kind of one of those processes” (Tennessee Vols playing to avoid historic loss | The Tennessean | tennessean.com).
