Hopson is going to do what he's going to do. Stop following his every word (or twitter/facebook status).
He isn't ready for the NBA. If he thinks he is, let him find out the hard way. As long as Harris comes back, I'm okay with it.
I was talking with a friend last night, and he and I both agreed that, maybe because of all of our (most of us, anyway) "negative" posts about Scotty not being ready for the NBA, that maybe he has been reading on FB, and VN, and GVX all these comments, which has only fueled his fire to leave and prove us all wrong. If that's the case, then I say go for it, but I think personally, it's a mistake, if not for the lacking of certain skill sets, then for self-approval and satisfaction. I dunno. Maybe I'm just ready for us to have players that want to be here at UT to go to the school and be a VOL and stay for their degree, and not come as a gateway doorstep to the NBA or NFL. I understand the $$$$ side of it too, but that's JMO.
I've never understood why, in cases like Hopson's, people say to stay another year to "develop". Would he not be developed better as a player with a year of NBA play than a year with UT? I understand people telling him to stay if it's to get a degree, win a championship, or just to get a better draft pick (fatter check). But do you really think him playing another year in a college system would help better prepare him for the NBA than a year in the NBA?
Don't believe that Scotty Hopson or very many other players, for that matter, are following VN with bated breath. The kid is about to make the most important decision of his life. Hope it turns out how he hopes it will. Unfortunately, how any of us hope ,and what the other decision makers decide, do not necessarily jibe all of the time.
It seems that he has his mind in the mode that he is through with college ball. If the people he trusts feel that same way then that is it, he is gone. If there is someone that he really trusts who can convince him that he needs more work, even then, that might not mean more college ball but rather overseas....getting paid.
It will be what it will be. It is his life. The odd thing about him was that his good games were really, really good. His game against Pitt was amazing. But his bad games were terrible. That does not seem to be the case with most other big time college players.
Harris is gone unless there is a lockout and he still may be gone even then.
Has he told you that he's leaving regardless of the NBA situation, or are you just speculating like every one else?
He is rated to go 20th in one service and 26th in another that means he is going to be offered multi millions of dollars. I think it is more than just speculation. But, he has not told me personally that he is going. I don't know him personally. When they offered Alan Houston 50 million over 5 years he said he and his dad (his agent) just looked at each other, they couldn't believe it.
