Hopson Has Chance To Make Heat Roster

Yeah. I'd hoped to see other parts of his game develop by now. Although my sample size has only been three games of summer league, I'm not seeing it. Maybe he'll get a chance with a lottery team that just needs to fill a roster spot with a cheap rental while they tank this season.

His best attribute is his cat-quick first step, but it's negated by his sloppy handle. It's even more glaring playing amongst professionals. If he could harness his outside shot to a consistent level and become an adequate ball-handler, he'd get a real chance. At 23 years old, the door isn't closed on him yet, but he needs to put in as much work as he can if the NBA is ultimate goal.

I think if he wants he'll be on a Dleague roster at the least but I doubt he'll want t go through that big pay cut. Like someone said 23 the window is still open. Go back over seas and keep developing his handle and defense then get noticed more.

I just don't see him being a contributer in the NBA. Average defense and his offense isn't good enough to make up for his flaws. Hopefully I'm wrong

People need to remember Hopson is just trying to make roster. I think some on here are being a little too critical of Hopson. He's not trying out to replace Lebron. He's trying out to sit at the end of the bench and hopefully carve out a role for himself in time.

I think his offensive game is good enough for the NBA. But his over all ability isn't.

He's certainly worth spots over some people that have made it or sit on the bench for some bad teams though.

Summer league only shows who can't play, not who can play. I think he should go to the D league to try to work his way up.

Oh that's good then. I had a friend that played overseas in a smaller league than Hopson. He made like $12k a year, and hardly ever got paid on time.

Depends on where you play and what league. Dleague doesn't pay that well.

Who in their right mind would go live in a foreign country for $12k/year? That's significantly less than minimum wage at 40 hours a week.

Isn't hopson playing in the greek league (for the olimpiakos I think)? that's one of the big 5 over there and the second highest paying one behind the spanish league IIRC.

Yes I totally misspelled that, but on phone, dont feel like google to get olimpiakos right

The Heat need to show the old geezers(Rashard Lewis and Jujuan Howard) the door to make room for Hop.

IMO his biggest hurdle was his TO's and defensive effort. From his numbers so far this summer, it looks like he has worked on both.

Isn't Juwan like a managing assistant or something?

Tax free though, and you're still being paid to play a game rather than tend bar, sell insurance, etc.

A lot of college grads are making 23-24k here in the states in their first jobs out of undergrad, and they're being taxed on that as well.

I think they just keep him around for his veteran presence. Still a member of the team. Lebron gets a lot of credit for the leadership that's actually administered by Juwan. Yet another example of King James' god-like status transcending facts.

I could look it up to verify, but what's the point in that?

Howard is officially on the roster. $135k salary.

The other part is a rumor. Juwan's main contribution is his leadership, and there was an incident during the Pacer's series where some sort of pep talk turned metaphorical turning point leading up to game 7 was supposedly attributed to Lebron while it was actually Howard that was responsible. Personally, if it paints Lebron in a negative light, I'm willing to believe it.

$24k taxed is still almost 1.5x $12k untaxed, and it's in the best damn country in the world, not in Kazakhstan.

Haha fair enough. I'm sure Johnson did his part, but he wasn't the one scoring the points, dishing the dimes, and grabbing the boards.
