Hopson...One of Best Ever When He Leaves?

True, i think Lofton might win H-O-R-S-E, but it would be a great battle...

probably seeing as CLo would probably say im gonna shoot from like 40 feet with a 6'9 Kevin Durant in my face nothing but net. Doubt Houston could pull that off since he had more of an upright shooting style and Chris was more of a fall back so harder to block although shorter.

Yeah he probably would now, but that is what made Lofton , Lofton. Scotty has the ability to drive all the time if he will...

Hopson doesn't currently have the mentality of a great player. He pouts around on the court and folds when people get physical. He is getting better, especially defensively, but right now, he is not even close to being the type of player Lofton, Houston, Ellis, King, Grunfeld, etc. were.

Houston was surrounded by stiffs. Lofton probably a better player but had better players around him so shared stats and was more sucessful as far as wins go. I know one thing id like to see a game of H-O-R-S-E between Houston and Lofton. However if it was a dunk contest then just give to Hopson because the other 2 have no elevation.

Used to play a lot of ball with Houston when he was at UT. He could elevate quite a bit, very sneaky. Hopson's probably more explosive though.

If he stays all 4 years and continues to develop each year the answer to your question is yes.

And during Tobias Harris sophomore year (if he stays) with two awesome guards and a STUD freshman guard, the team will have more talent on the roster potentially than any UT team in history.

Ware, T Harris, Hopson, Golden, McRae, Kenny Hall and a few of the Memphis kids...would be a special bunch.

No way he ever gets to the level of King or Houston. EVER.

He said "one of the best" which means in the company of b king, grunfeld, houston, lofton etc.

If you do not think hopson has that kind of ability...

It is extremely unfair and extremely idiotic to put him in the same level of a King or a Houston.

The kid has ability, but emotionally and physical toughness are going to plague him and keep him from getting the absolute best out of his ability.

I see all this jazz about emotional and physical toughness.. People get physical and he pouts..

To me it boils down to confidence. I honestly believe Hopson has no clue how good he is. As he continues to assert himself, his confidence will grow. He's ridiculously talented. I just don't think he has the faith in himself to take over. Maybe this stretch of games (and hopefully more) will show him otherwise. Either way, I'm a Scotty Hops guy.

To the guy who said he won't be drafted.. wow.

Kevin Nash is by far the best B-Ball player to ever play for Tennessee.

Wolfpack in da houuuuuuse!!!

But based on his potential and hype out of H.S. he definitely should be. He is still a raw product but he'll be great by the time he's done here

I think the light can come on for guys and they can be TONS better in a short period of time when they have the ability and what they lack is something intangible like attitude.

A kid cannot jump higher after a day and a revelation within a basketball game. But a kid can get his attitude right and go dunk over and over and feel unstoppable.

Potential is worthless if you never reach it. The kid better have one hell of a junior and senior season to live up to the nonsense you guys are throwing around.

during the alabama game they said maze was playing the best he has since being at ut,and it is all because tyler smith doesnt get the ball and hold onto it while everyone looks around ,maze is finally making plays ,scotty is driving to the hoop there are more passing going on and nobody is standing around as much as when they were all waiting on tyler to do something,no one has to step up for tyler ut is a team now not tyler and company.scotty is driving and dunking or doing more layups

Scotty wont be one of best ever. He wont even be top 2 from his home state. Chris Lofton and Allan Houston are the 2 best to play here from Kentucky. Hopson may not even be the best from his high school to play here, remember he went to same high school as Isaiah Victor who was a special player here. I would love for Scotty to excel but feel he is just going to be a good player unless he can improve consistency from behind arc and shooting free throws as well as defense. As stated earlier he is figuring out that he can out athlete people to the rim.

That's an odd comment. In some ways, Scotty and Vic are a lot alike; both are long, lean, and athletic. Scotty is quicker and has a better shot, but Victor is about 3 inches taller. Overall, Scotty is a better prospect at guard than Victor was at forward.

Isaiah never put on the physical bulk or developed the intensity or killer instict to raise his game to the top level, which is why he has made a nice career banging around the NBADL, Asia, and Europe instead of the NBA. If Hopson doesn't surpass that, I will be very disappointed. I'd pit Hopson as a sophomore against Victor as a senior and call it a wash. With Scotty having two more years before making a fair comparison, I think Hopson will be the much better player.

Being coached by Jerry Green instead of Kevin O'Neill cost Victor several million dollars.

Probably. O'Neil certainly would have put the bulk on him. I'm not sure if he could have coached the intensity or killer instinct into him or not. He had a hell of a lot better chance of doing it than Green.

Before Hopson, I saw 4 guys go through UHA with NBA type ability. Of the 4, Greg Buckner had the least, but he spent 10 seasons in the league where none of the other 3 made it. The difference was almost solely in attitude and its translation into drive, work ethic, etc.

Buckner was also really smart. He added three years to his career by figuring out that the purposes of players 10-12 on an NBA roster are to practice hard, keep their mouths shut, and be professional.

Yes, he was. I don't think I've ever heard the term "good in the locker room" as often as I did around him. Transforming himself into a guy who could fill a bunch of roles, from mentor to shooter to defensive stopper, was a pretty neat trick as well for a 6'5" tweener.
