'13 AL RB Johnathan Ford (Vandy Commit) Update

per Hubbs

Tennessee continues to have good momentum with running back Jonathan Ford even after his Vanderbilt visit. He had a good visit with Jay Graham earlier in the week and continued to talk to the staff throughout the week. He was originally scheduled to visit Mississippi State this weekend, but there's a chance he could end up at Auburn, or even Knoxville for an unofficial visit. We'll be keeping a close eye on him these last two weeks.

Pinson Valley (Ala.) four-star LB Zach Cunningham appears headed somewhere other than Auburn, sources confirm. Cunningham will visit Vanderbilt and Tennessee this weekend after Auburn cooled on him late this week. The Tigers feel fairly confident in their ability to land Flowers and Auburn (Ala.) five-star Reuben Foster -- or possibly Bayside Academy (Ala.) LB Jonathan Walton.

Will be on campus Sunday.

"Quickly on Cunningham, Auburn picked up a commitment from junior college linebacker Kenny Flowers and we've heard that will likely take Auburn out of the running for Cunningham leaving it down to mostly Vanderbilt and Tennessee heading into signing day, with Vanderbilt a slight leader because they've never seen Tennessee and his mother likes the 'Dores.

But, it will be very interesting to here what he has to say coming off back-to-back visits from Vanderbilt to Tennessee with the Vols having the obvious advantage of facilities and support."

The toughest for me right now is probably the nation's No. 4 overall player, Carl Lawson. Whether it's him or his coach speaking, no concrete information seems to be available. He canceled his planned trip to North Carolina, and now there are some questions whether he'll end up taking his official visit to Auburn, the school where he's still committed. If he does make the trip to Auburn, look for it to come down to the Tigers and Tennessee, with Clemson still trying to stay in the race.

Update on Carl Lawson:

Unlike most, well virtually all elite prospects, Lawson has no plans to announce his decision on TV, or sit in front of a table of hats.

“He’s just going to call the school, and it will be done,” Lawson said. “There’s no press conference or anything like that.”

Some recruiting analysts, including 247sports.com's Gerry Hamilton, are projecting Lawson to sign with Tennessee.

Marquez North update from TOS

"I wouldn't call him a UNC lean. He continues to talk to Tennessee and I don't know that either team leads right now. Vols very much alive here."

A friend passed this to me from UNC's premium scout board...

"According to IC sources, Gunter Brewer left an in-home visit with North and his family last Thursday without a firm idea of what North would end up doing. Again, we’re told he left the impression on several who interacted with him during his UNC official visit that Chapel Hill was where he wanted to be. However, more and more sources close to Mallard Creek expect Tennessee to be his ultimate choice."

***The news for Vonn Bell is that Tennessee made a strong impact on him this weekend and enough sources have told us that to believe it. Butch Jones has put on the full court press with Bell with Vol students chanting his name at the basketball game Saturday. Obviously, he is a staple recruit for Jones in his first class. Alabama’s numbers crunch also factors in. As we speculated a few weeks ago, Alabama might only be able to take one defensive back down the stretch with this class depending on how things shake out at other positions. That has affected Bell’s status as well, with the emergence of a prospect like Reed who could take one of those final spots. As things stand now, UT seems his likely destination but things could change between now and NSD.
