Hey guys Ive come across a great deal for Bristol tickets, only we cant find a hotel near Bristol (of course).. The guy selling the tickets suggested Wytheville, VA, but Id rather stay west if possible.. I know a lot of you have been or are from the surrounding area so I'd appreciate any suggestions.. thanks :hi:

Wytheville is northeast, but do you really have to stay an hour away? that seems a bit insane. If you're going to stay that far out, might as well go west and stay in knoxville, at least it's a cool place to hang out.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but I know a lot of people who rent out their house during race weekends. I'd look into that.

have you checked Johnson City or Kingsport? And I want to make sure that you want to be east? If so, check out Asheville, NC.

Morristown or Jefferson City is the only thing west between Knoxville and Bristol.

that's honestly going to be about the best you can do.

ah, I see you changed it to west. There's not a whole lot of options west of Bristol if Kingsport or Johnson City don't work out. Greenville has a few places, a Jameson Inn for one, Morristown will have a little bit and then it's Sevierville/Kodak/Gatlinburg, just over an hour away.

last year, we stuck around for about an hour after the race and then drove back to Knoxville. by some large miracle, we got routed into a single lane on the other side of the road leaving the track and we made it home in two hours and didn't have to sit in traffic once. if i go this spring, i'm going to park in that lot and hope for the same luck.

if you know what you are doing, there are a million ways out of BMS. It helps being a local. I've not been nearly as many times as you, but I never sat in traffic. Actually got picked up once by my buddies dad a few years ago and I was resting comfortably at my house in Jonesborough within 30 minutes. I couldn't get there any faster if I left right now.

I'd say staying in Johnson City is your best bet, its close to the track but not close enough for all the congestion afterwards. I've stayed at a Best Western there twice and its just about a ten minute drive from the track. Here is some info on it if you'd like:

Best Western Johnson City Hotel & Conference Center
2406 North Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601
(423)282-2161
Fax: (423)282-2488
http://www.bwjohnsoncity.com

Best Western's are also the official hotel of NASCAR so there is a good chance of seeing NASCAR personnel around. I ran into Ted Musgrave there two years ago.

an hour-ish in normal conditions. typically I would say turn off 11E onto 394 and hit I81 South there and that takes you all the way. However, getting to I81 from there after a race could be a disaster. I've never done it, so I'm not sure.

Don't do Morristown if you can help it - Greeneville is even closer and you could avoid the Interstates completely. I can help you with that - we have a pretty nice Jameson and Hampton Inn right on the bypass. You then would just keep traveling up 11-E through JC and right to BMS. I go that way all the time and Greeneville isn't bad - we don't have alot but its not a ghost town either. Nice little town.

the only problem I would have with that is driving through Jonesborough sucks and Roan St can get flat nasty during race weekend in JC.

Maybe I've just been getting lucky but for the past 3-4 Cup and Busch races I've been to there its not been a problem for me. I find it much easier snaking some backroads out of the track and getting back on 11-E after its over.

Well we got in the holiday inn express in morristown. Got tired of searching. Got 2 tix for nationwide and 2 for cup for $200. Pretty good I though

as I mentioned before, I could get out of BMS and be home in Jonesborough within 30 minutes, but I'd hate to try and get him through there.

Yeah Bill I understand what you are saying. Someone that isn't familiar at all with the back roads up there could get totally twisted around.

exactly. You could simply slide through Blountville, into Gray, onto Sulphur Springs and through Bowmantown and you'd be back to Greeneville in no time. I could make great time on those roads, but I've driven them hundreds of times. I wouldn't want him to wind up lost in Sulphur Springs or Bowmantown. Although, Aubrey's is a great place to eat if he did get lost down there.:good!:

I was working on the same basic routing you are referring to, but haven't had time to get it done yet. I was concerned about getting him lost as well.
