I think you start with the returns. If you have a reason to think something is misleading or fraudulent about an entry, inquire further. His returns if you include corporate ones will be complex. So in my view checking each background document will cause more confusion than it cures.
But if there is an entry that appears suspicious, yes, check it out.
What are you gonna do that the IRS isn’t? Based on them being weaponized against conservatives I doubt they’re gonna give him a pass on anything.
