Houston/Vols get geography seed screw.

We are actually the closest... but I think it's because there was no west coast team on the 2 line. St. Johns was probably the last 2 seed so they had to be the furthest which created the domino effect.
They actually balanced it the best they could. I think they do it by seed lining first, not 1-2-3 -4 in one region.

St. Johns to San Fran (2920 miles)
Knoxville to San Fran (2480 miles)
Michigan St. to San Fran - (2330 miles)
Alabama to San Fran - (2300 miles)

St. Johns - San Fran - (over 2,920 miles)

Michigan St - Atlanta - (770 miles)

Alabama - New Jersey (991 miles)

Tennessee - Indy - (357 miles)

If this discussion didn’t involve Tennessee playing Kentucky in Indianapolis nobody making these claims would give a rip, you included.
Obviously becuase the team I support is involved, I am more in tune to the dynamics of the selection process. But it has nothing to do with whether the process is actually fair or not in this instance. That is a judgement any nuetral observer can make for themselves.

And I would argue there needs to be more attention given to it. But I'm sure there are many aspects that need to be considered and re-evaluated afterwards in terms of how conference re-alignment has affected the tournanent.

Then explain why Iowa State, a higher #3 seed than Kentucky was placed in the south bracket (Atlanta) instead of the midwest bracket (Indianapolis)? This alone is worth questioning.

It's not about victomhood mentality. It is simply questioning the selection process. Maybe I am missing something, but I can't make sense of Iowa State being pushed to the South Region...for what? To avoid having two Big 12 teams in the same region?
I feel like some other posters did an adequate job explains the process. They know more about it than I. The suggestion that the committee to screw Tennessee or Houston is silly. As someone pointed out, Florida is going to San Francisco, which is way worse. There is a process and that doesn’t mean it all makes sense to me, but I don’t think it’s about sticking it to another team. TV ratings, crowds that travel, etc all play into it. Indy is very doable from Vol fans in Knoxville and the many who may live even closer to Indy. Purdue and Kentucky fans may be willing to pay much more, though.

They screwed Houston, no doubt about it! Now, was it intentional? Very likely it wasn't.

But that's why I argue the process isn't fully considering what is best for the top 1 or 2 seeds. It does so until a certain point and then forgets about them as they fill the rest of the bracket out.

I think you’re overthinking this. The committee keeps the top seeds as close to home as they can based on the predetermined regional locations. For Houston, that happens to be Indianapolis this year. Who else ends up playing their way there is inconsequential.

Ticket prices certainly reflect Lexington and Purdue being an easy drive....

Last night lower/mid level seats were $1500-3500. You could sit at the very top of the football stadium for $200.

Correct, they fill out the bracket by overall seed line - all the 1's first, the 2's second, and so forth, while keeping in mind the other principles (first four teams from a conference in different regions, no games vs. other teams from your conference until at least round 2, etc.).

Of course as soon as I said Florida looked vulnerable they blow out a good Maryland team
Yeah just based on the recent games I've seen, they're going to be very tough for anyone to beat. UCONN came very close outplaying them for about 35-36 minutes of the game before choking.
