How can this fan base still be so delusional to believe that we should be winning the SEC East this year? We all knew coming in that this would be a gap year, yet mid season because of how well Heupel has had this team playing, we expected to finish 10-2 in the toughest division in all of CFB, with a roster still dealing with fallout from the Pruitt era.
We are recruiting better than ever, have the top QB waiting in the wings, and still a damn good coach. Heupel didn’t fumble 3 times yesterday, he didn’t throw a pick 6. Injuries have decimated our thin defense, and even still we have had a top group that after a murderers row of opponents have just been thinned out.
I get it, we are all ready for success after these past 20 years, especially being so close to Georgia, Alabama, etc. but firing Heupel or blowing up the team because of a bad loss is asinine. This team is well on its way back to the top, but have some perspective and don’t let the year Heupel and Hooker carried us to last year fog that.
Who are you going to realistically replace him with? Even in 2025…?If he goes 8 or 9 wins in 24 (which looks likely) and 8 or 9 wins in 25...would it be stupid to entertain the idea?
Is above average but not good what we expect from Heupel most years? Or any coach for that matter? Not making one SEC title game?
Again, all of this hypothetical but some of you coach worship far too much.
Losing to Florida was all I needed to see to know UT wasnt winning the east this year. How can this fan base still be so delusional to believe that we should be winning the SEC East this year? They won 36-7. That’s something you say if they won 10-7.Missouri is going 10-2 and it still took a game with everything that could go wrong, going wrong, for them to win. Florida on the road sucked, but this isn’t a perfect team right now. 9-3 to 8-4 as a gap year with the circumstances is damn admirable
I countered your hypothetical with a hypothetical.Who knows what things will look in late 25, we are talking hypotheticals. Regardless, nothing is more mind numbing than the, "who ya gunna get huh" reply.
Yes. There is a reason scholarship reductions are handed down as punishment. I don’t think people appreciate how this roster was decimated in 21 along with scholarship reductions. It may take 5 or 6 years to get on track. If he goes 8 or 9 wins in 24 (which looks likely) and 8 or 9 wins in 25...would it be stupid to entertain the idea?

The only thing more mind numbing is to constantly be handwringing about finding a new coach, after the guy you have leads you to the best 3 year period in football since the mid 2000s….

I think nine wins is a great year. There is a difference between gap year and getting run off the field against a bad Florida team and a good Mizzu team.
You guys have to put last season in the rear view mirror and look ahead. What does next year look like? Another 8 or 9 wins? Then your gap "year" turns into "years".
I agree with what you said, however, I think we should have still been in the running at this point given our 3 losses seemed to be rigged from the start. I really think there’s more to it going on that the team can not control. It’s been too obvious up to this point. How can this fan base still be so delusional to believe that we should be winning the SEC East this year?
