How big of an upset would this be?

Not to be a downer, but not even close.

That is the biggest upset in the history of sports and will probably never be topped.

It would be like if the Vols beat the Denver Broncos.

UT beating Alabama would be a big upset, yes, but probably not even in the top 50 all time sports upsets.

Top 50 in college football though, for sure, perhaps top 10.

Florida 1998? No, that sprang us to the national title but we were ranked.

Miami 1985? Maybe, but again, we were SEC champions, ranked and in the Sugar bowl, so no again.

Bammer 1982? Well, now the parallels are there. Bammer was no. 1 in the country. It was Bear Bryant's last year (though that wasn't known at the time, I think). We were coming off a long down period, even longer than today. Bammer had won 11 in a row on us vs. the current streak of 6.

On the other hand, in 1982, bammer was 3 years removed from back to back championships, vs having won 3 of the last 4. So while we might have been beat down a bit more in 1982, or have been down a longer time (and I'm not even sure about that?) bammer was a bit more removed from it's championship run of the late 70s.

OTOH, since bammer is going for an unprecedented 3-peat in national championships, this could well be a bigger upset than 1982.

It's very close!

Not saying we WILL upset them at all...just saying that if we do, it might be the biggest since our original upset of them in 1926 first put us on the map.

Some incentive, maybe.....:)

I won't be too upset at all.

I hope Herbstreit does't have to apologize to his family at halftime, like he did at the 04' Auburn game.

Just heard a tidbit on sportscenter where herbstreit has bama on upset alert this week. Anyone else catch what was said?

They led in with last weeks upsets and they mentioned usce last then said UA was on upset alert because of the lopsided way the series has been. I guess like they might overlook us, i doubt they overlook us. GBO!

I've never paid much attention to Kirkstreit because he always seemed to give the Vols short shrift in the past, but I already had Bama on upset alert. Unlike early in the year, these Vols are motivated.

Honestly out of every analyst in the college football world he seems to be one of the most reasonable. Some of those idiots are pathetic. Tom Luginbill is one of the best on the recruiting side

None of them are close. This would be the biggest upset in program history.

He honestly used to give the Vols props, the only one of the fameday jokers that i would even consider listening too.

Kirk is usually pretty unbiased IMO. It is rare to see someone from Ohio State admit as often as he does that the SEC is undoubtedly the best conference in the nation

Ever since the guy left Buckeye country he's been loads better as an analyst, and likely, as a human being. (This coming from a slightly jaded Vols fan who just recently was able to finally make it back down south and far away from the Buck-tard masses)

Kirk has always liked Tennessee, he's just cooled on them the past few years because they've sucked.
