How concerned should we be...

Mizzou has really missed a golden opportunity. They've dropped the last three games and could have been in discussion if they pulled one of those off (especially winning at Bud Walton right before going on that slide). We'll see how they do against Arkansas but I like us better in this game than I did two weeks ago.

0-1 vs Vandy in year 3...check.

0 NCAA bids in 2 years and heading for 3....check

Oh and for butch...

Top 5 recruiting class after year one...check

Don't let your jealousy be so obvious. The football program hired a coach that is making progress and the basketball program made a mistake.

And the most amazing part is both wear orange and white and represent the same exact university. What exactly is the argument? UT is UT.

Two words: Frank Haith.

For all of the disappointment with Martin, I think he could be better than Haith. Now, that doesn't mean we win on Saturday.

I think in the big picture OP is right. Yes we should be concerned about Georgia in the regular season and SEC Tournament at the Georgia Dome. They can get hot from time to time (like now on a 3 game win streak) and they will play most of the tournament in front of a home crowd (not counting the 90% of the crowd that are KY fans and don't notice anyone else is playing). The Dawgs are 11-2 at home, and it would be easy for them to pack the dome and make the tournament a home game until KY.

In a strategic coaching matchup of Fox vs Zo at the end of a close tournament game, with a potential NCAA berth on the line for UT, who are you betting on?

See my post above. He supports UT. You guys just let his subtle remarks get to you.

Georgia fans barely pack their own arena...I doubt we have to worry about a ton of Red and Black in the Georgia Dome.

I like Butch, but he's done nothing on the field so far to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

No, he is leading you on. In a subtle way, he is trying to show you how fans choose sides and are somewhat hypocritical with their views from one coach to the next. Do I believe it? Not necessarily. But that is his point.

I did write something before about the ironic similarities between Jones' first year and Martin's first year. But, I do like Jones and believe that he will succeed at UT.

This guy...

He gets it.

Come on now, you didn't get at least a little excited during the SC and GA games? Yes it was disappointing when we lost our QB and had to throw in a true freshmen but we were optimistic till then.

That is exactly my point. I am a basketball guy, I played and coach basketball but how can you be a UT fan and not love Tennessee football. I feel the constant negative comments by this poster about our football program simply stem from the fact that he wants to try to justify his support of ccm by degrading the butch jones hire. It is sickening and this board knows who truly bleeds orange.

You mean the true freshman people were calling for 2 games into the season?

Then you don't understand me.

As Gee pointed out, my posts about the football team have a point, few just pick up on it.

The addition of his new frames earned him a new nickname in my house. Malcolm heX.:)

To be honest, our football posters disrespect basketball far more than I see basketball posters. Being a die hard fan of both but preferring basketball over football, you almost feel a sense of "taking up" for basketball when someone writes it off as insignificate by saying things like "OH I thought this was football related...screw basketball". So naturally, the only thing to do is insult their favorite sports, football. lol. It's silly but pretty common. I wish we would win championships in both every year and I don't insult football. I do some others that do to defend basketball like their is a wall between the two when in reality, we all love the same university :)

Makes no difference. This team is not going anywhere. If we make the big dance. You know we will be one and done. It will only worse next year after Jordy Mac, Maymon, and Stokes are gone. I mean Martin has the talent now and can't get it done. Football hurry up and get here.

Or softball lol. IMO stokes is not ready for the nba and I think he'll be back next year. I would rather be one and done then in the nit.

If by people you mean some vocal message board posters, then yes that same freshman. It was obvious to me that the coaching staff who are at practices every day didn't share that opinion and I tend to go with their analysis over the message board crowd.

I used to agree with you on Stokes, but he appears to have taken a big step forward this season. I will now be surprised if he returns.

It was a stroke of bad luck and a minor injury to the other that threw this freshman into the mix before he was ready.
The other was more highly rated coming out of the same summer camp and ahead of said freshman on the depth chart.
We'll never know if the other's scrambling style would have been a better fit and produced different results. all you can say is '$hit happens'.
Enough football in the bb forum.

Face it folks:

If Jones left UT tomorrow, he would get another job at a major conference (Big Ten/PAC 12/Big 12/ACC) by next Saturday assuming one were open this late in the year.

If Martin left UT tomorrow, I seriously doubt he would get a major collge job again; more likely he would be back in the mid-major size colleges where he truly belongs.

All I'll say is this...

After year 1 of Martin there were reports Illinois was interested in Martin and had reached out.

After year 1 of Butch what reports were there of schools interested? I honestly didn't see any, but I could be wrong.

And no I'm not saying Martin is better, or Butch sucks, those are simply facts I'm stating after year 1 for both coaches.

Would you not say that was based solely on reputation at the time? What schools have come after Martin as of late? Where do you think he would land if he was fired from UT after this season? I realize that you were comparing year one Butch to year one Martin but I'm interested to see your views on where he stands currently as far as hot or cold coaches. Also to be fair to Butch, UT plays in the best football conference in the country where our basketball team plays in probably the worst conference as far as BCS teams go.

Apples and oranges.

At $4.86 mil, CBJ is the 4th highest paid coach in college football. Only a hand full of schools could afford to hire him away from UT, especially in light of the hefty buy out clauses in his contract.

CCM doesn't make the top 25 paid bball coaches. Lot's of top programs could afford him if they decided he was their man. Also speaks volumns concerning UT administration's view of bball

4.86 is not Butch's salary, surely you knew that though.
