Coaches dont...but he can get some information on what to do. Stop being so negative, the kid didnt ask you how to 'not' be recruited!

Actually, they do. A lot coaches/schools sign up with those recruiting services. It's a great way to get clean evaluation tape in bulk.

1.First you need to be honest with yourself and decide what division of college football you think or your high school coach thinks you can play at.

2. Based on that you need to get a highlight tape and send it to schools that correlate with your level of talent; though you can send it all over if you want. I would advise not only sending a highlight tape but also game film as well, coaches look at that a lot more; and be sure it is one of your better games.

3. Over the summer you need to go to some football camps, they have them at schools all over the county and you really need to go and show your abilities. If you send out your film and you start getting letters of interest try and find out if those schools have camps you can go to.

4. Work extremely hard over the off-season and have a monster senior season, stay in contact with the schools that are showing any interest and make sure your coach is staying active in trying to find a home for you for the next four years. If your coach will take the time to help promote you it will help a lot!!!!

Good luck!

I have to agree with this post, you gotta be honest with yourself and then ask what is important as far as playing football. I played College hoops at Mars Hill in NC and was recruited by bigger schools and smaller ones but it really came down to, do I want to ride the pine for 4 years on a big school like UT as a walk on or do I want to have the opportunity to play at a place like Mars Hill? I knew I wasn't going to the NBA so I figured if I'm going to spend 4 years on a basketball team, practicing like crazy and basically doing this year round....I want to play!

Here is something no one has asked but what are your credentials?

What is your height and weight?
Whats your 40 time?
Bench press?
Have you made all state, all district, all region etc etc?

If you're an All Distrct player (not in Florida) you might want to look at a JuCo or D-III school

First off make sure your grades are in check
and your act score is where it needs to be. Attending camps & combines help to get your name out there. And as far as sending your film out from what I've been told at a coaches clinic a few years back college coaches look at two quarters, the 1st & the 4th. TIFWIW

Nekkid photos sent to Urban Meyer will probably earn you a Florida scholarship.

1. Talk to your coach!

1a. Take the necessary steps to get cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. ASAP!!

2. Go to NCAAFootball.com.

If you follow the links for standings from all the respective divisions (D1 FBS to D3), you can see a pretty comprehensive list of all the schools separated by division and confrence. Look over a few schools in your area or areas of interest and check out their respective athletic and academic websites to see if you think the school would be a good fit. Most of the smaller schools have recruit questionnaires you can fill out if you want to get your name in those coaches head.

My suggestion would be to start with some of the D1 FCS schools in our area (Ohio Valley Conference, Southern, Southland, etc). If you find some you like fill out the questionnaires.

3. After you have been cleared by the clearinghouse, don't be afraid to email the coaches declaring your interest and maybe sending some highlights and game films. Most websites have the coaches university affiliated email listed. I cannot attest to how often they check these addresses and if that would be effective or not, but it couldn't hurt.

4. Work you butt off all summer, attend as many camps as financially possible, and keep up the hard work throughout the season.

P.S. I'm no recruiting expert, but I had the same interest as you did (except with cross country and track) and have already done all this research before.

Not sure about other schools but, UT Sports.com (football section) has a football recruting form you can fill out on yourself.

If you were going to get scholarship offers from a lot of FBS/I-A teams, you'd probably know it. You should take a look at some FCS/I-AA teams.

I'm an Appalachian State fan... so, here's their recruiting website:
Appalachian State University - Play At The Rock

Their recruiting coordinator is Mark Speir:
speirma@appstate.edu

And, since you're a linebacker and a Tennessee fan... you're Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker coach would be Dale Jones... a Tennessee legend.

you seem like a reasonable person......if evidence suggest otherwise would you believe it? or are you really just being stubborn at this point and not giving E.TN football its just due.

He's stubborn about everything.

Not the case.

Unless you play football in the hills, pretty much so yes. I can't tell you how many recruiting letters kids get in high school if they are even borderline whether it be D1, 2 or 3. Kids that never saw the field at my high school still got letters for visits etc
