How does Meyer stepping down effect UT recruiting?

I'm a long-time reader but don't have enough posts apparently to start a thread...

Well I sat next to CDH on a flight last night from ATL to Knox. What a nice guy. He was coming from Orlando, where he said he spent the weekend visiting recruits. We chatted about the Meyer resignation and he was like, "yeah, that's crazy," just as surprised as everyone else apparently. I asked him what implications that might have and he told me he had already contacted 3 of UF's commitments. This got me curious... any guesses which ones he might be talking about? My best guess would be Blakely and Leonard but I have no idea who that third might be.

In talking about Meyer he also said that CDD does a great job of not overworking the staff, making sure to respect family time. CDH is a class act and I'm even more impressed with this staff.

Forgive me if there's already something like this mentioned...

Nice post. :good!: Welcome to VN!

CDH = Hinshaw?

What is the worst case scenario for us in regards to whom Florida hires? Mullen, Stoops, Petrino? Who would keep the recruiting at top level with no bump in the road plus give UT trouble from a scheme perspective? Who should I be rooting against? Charlie Strong and Gus Malzahn would suit me fine as a UT fan...

If somehow Peterson accepts the UF position, does Wilcox go to UF as the DC or to Boise St as the HC?

Welcome. And please be Chickillo. Please, please, please. :crossfingers:

Gainesville Sun staff writer Edward Aschoff just tweeted that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden was seen at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Thursday talking to Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley and outgoing coach Urban Meyer during an Outback Bowl function that included Penn State coach Joe Paterno.... Interesting to say the least

Alot of smoke right now that B Stoops(OU) might end up at UF. If so a big hire for them and alot of recruits that would probably stay around for him.

Also doubt it was AC Leonard he was visiting. Unless something changed he was at UF yesterday for the start of his OV. Which will be interesting to see what happens because it is the last time I think they can visit this year and his is suppose to be an EE. My guess he stays with UF.

Committed reactions
Obviously, with a major coaching change like this, Florida’s commits will definitely be looking around. It’s only natural.

CB Nick Waisome (Groveland South Lake) — He will officially visit Florida State this weekend. Remember, Waisome picked Florida over FSU this year. He’ll also visit LSU and maybe South Carolina. Waisome told Scout.com’s Laura McKeeman that he could visit USC.

CB Louchiez Purifoy (Pensacola Pine Forest) — He already had an official visit to Alabama in January planned, and he’ll now visit Auburn, according to Rivals.com. Alabama will definitely make a strong push for him. He’s still committed to Florida, but the Tide are creeping up quite quickly.

LB Ryan Shazier (Plantation) — He was supposed to officially visit Florida this weekend, but instead decided to visit LSU. He could also check out Ohio State.

WR Ju’Juan Story (Brooksville Nature Coast) — He was shocked to say the least about Meyer’s resignation. He not only had a close relationship with him but he and former defensive line coach Dan McCarney were pretty tight as well. Georgia is a team that will probably be very involved with Story.

WR Javares McRoy (Lakeland) — He is a spread guy and really liked Florida’s offense. He is in wait-and-see mode at this point.

CB De’Ante “Pop” Saunders (DeLand) — Florida State will be jumping all over him. He’s still committed to Florida, but he’s definitely a candidate to take a hard look at FSU.

TE A.C. Leonard (Jacksonville University Christian) — While nothing has been reported, you have to think that Alabama will make a run at him. He’s expected to enroll at Florida early, so he and Bama will have to act fast. If Florida brings in the right guy, Leonard will probably stay, but he and Meyer had a great relationship. Alabama has a chance to steal him at the end.
