how does the bar fight/arrests affect recruiting?

I hope i am not overreacting. But it seem's to me that there is some bad karma or energy around the football team. They take a giant step forward and then BOOM! A giant step back.I have faith in coach Dooley. But we get some good momentum going and something like this happens.

Could be the fulmer curse!

Guys, let's please quit saying," kick the player's off the team!" Let's at least wait til all the facts are in first. We don't know what happened and what caused the fight. If you've ever been to the club/bar and had a few drinks then you have more than likely been in a fight or some kind of altercation. It's very easy for things to get outta hand and the next thing u know your throwing down. I'm not making excuses for anyone but let's be rational and wait til all the info is out before we run off anyone. Truth be told if it were u and you seen your brother or best friend in a fight most of us especially if drinking would jump right in and throw down too. Ok sorry for the long rant, let's wait on the facts and hope it's not as bad as it seems. This is where CDD will earn his Trust from these kids if he has there back and shows them he cares about them and their future, cause a lot of them have never had anyone to genuinely care about them in that way.

For a coaches salary of 2-5 million dollars per year there should be a system in place to know where every player is at all time... This is checkers not chess ....

I'm sick of that lame a$$ excuse...

Thats called a cellphone. Stupid people will do stupid things regardless of whether or not they are being watched. Stop trying to put this on the coaching staff.

How does this effect recruiting?

It helps tremendously.

It really ups our rep/street cred with the recruits!

Ask a stupid question......

This incident does shine a negative light on our program, but Dooley's response to all this could end up being a positive (as far as recruiting goes).

I think the fact other players are coming out saying that the KPD has been harassing players will hurt you more than anything. A recruit is not going to want to go to Tennessee if they think the KPD is going to harass them when they go out.

I find it hard to believe that a recruit is going to consider how leinient the cops are when considering what school to go to... Just a thought.

You just don't hear about this stuff with the Lady Vols....at least not while they're in school. Pat would never tolerate this crap and her players know it. We need that kind of fear in our football and basketball programs.

Are u serious? I hope not. You are comparing ladies to men. Totally ridiculous. How often do non lady Vol females do this crap.

College kids go out and party on the weekends...it's what they do. If they think that they are going to be harassed by the local police department every time they go out, I am willing to bet it will play in their decision.

This comparison is irrelevant.

1. A lot fewer people care about women's basketball so if there is an incident, it will still be last page news, ESPN wouldn't pick it up, etc...Very few would care.

2. There are 13 scholarship players in basketball. Football has 85. Enormous difference when it comes to babysitting, accounting for all people at all times, etc...

3. Everything that walks throws themselves at football players and puts them into dangerous or bad situations.... From a lunatic fan, to just about every Drunk woman at a bar or club, to Handlers, and even apparently Bar Owners. Nobody would even recognize the majority of women basketball players unless they are flaming lesbians.

I dont know if it would hurt recruiting, but there is no doubt the KPD has a reputation for this and has for years. They had that rep back when my brother was at Tennessee 20 years ago.

It can and it might not. For CDD he has some tough decisions ahead of him on how to handle the situation. It is made worse for all the drama CLK made while he was at UT prior to leaving it for CDD. Stuff like this happens all over. Look at Penn State a few years back with the arrests involving football players and fighting, but because CJP stepped up and said he would take care of it, not much became national news because of the respect for him and the program. CLK sort of hurt that with his love of being the media poster child and now CDD has to deal with it.

Parents that were concerned before, for things that happened last year, will watch what CDD does to determine if it is the best place for their child. Will he quickly take control of the situation and how he handles it. That does not mean he has to kick anyone off the team, but he has to convince parents of future prospects that it will be a thing of the past and not tolerated.

In regards to other schools it really doesn't matter how they spin it. No offense but UT is still a few years away from recruiting as well as UF and UA. That does not mean they wont get there. Other schools like UGA, LSU, and USCe have coaches that this might be their last year so no matter how they spin it will not matter if they have a bad season and get fired. With the exception of Auburn who has been hot on the recruiting trail, they still do not have the tradition that UT does and Gus will probably leave for a HC job somewhere after the season and he is the main reason recruits are coming right now. The other 6 schools have no chance to out recruit UT. So at this juncture UT should be fine and I think CDD will take care of business so that most people will be content with his decision. The ones that do not, oh well and good luck to them.

Again that is my 2 cents for what it is worth as a UA fan.

I want to say kids will be kids. BUT, when they take a scholly they should know and be told that they now are public figures and every action will be noted. BUT kids will be kids.

Keep in mind that these kids get VIP service everywhere they go, have grown men asking for their autographs, and you can slowly start to understand why they might develop a mindset that they are above the law and play by a different set of rules.

Hubbs said he doesn't think it will affect recruiting much.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Need to see what the guys who the Vols were heavily in it for like Hayes, Wright, Martin, and Walls say.

It's July, so I don't think this will be a huge deal around crunch time. I think Dooley will handle this remarkably well, and we will be fine. Winning the parents of recruits over with the decisions right now, is key.

How did the Richardson/Edwards/Jackson situation affect Kiffin's recruiting?

I expect the same in regards to this situation.

people will forget this over time. That is if there are no other incidents like this.
