How good is Cooper Flagg?

Yes, I just think that is his weakness as a NBA player. He is a 6’9 3guard or stretch4 and he went up against smaller players most of the year.

He should be the number 1 pick and well deserved.
I think what he needs to improve upon the most is his handle in the half court game. He’s outstanding in transition, dribbling w/ purpose, finding the right guys and finishing around the rim, but his breakdown of defenders in the half court offense is something that is probably the weakest part of his game.

Where do you want him to go (of the teams likely to get the #1 pick)?

I'm a Jazz fan, so that's obviously my pick. Flagg + Lauri + Kessler is a nasty frontline of white boys. 😄 It's a great coach and a steady organization with a great GM. The guards aren't great, but the young guys might end up solid. Jazz have a bunch of expiring contracts next year, so they have all kinds of options. They're set to have about $75m in cap space the following year.

I would hate for him to play with Lamelo, so please no to the Hornets. I think the Wizards are a joke, but that's a much better landing spot for him.

I’m sure you won’t like this answer, but I want him to go to the best place for him to be successful. That sounds like the ultimate cop out answer, but I just don’t follow it like I once did. I know you follow the NBA pretty closely, so I trust you to know where that might be. A lot of people around here wouldn’t mind him going to Charlotte bc of the proximity, but most know that the organization hasn’t been good for a long time . I would have no problem w/ him going to Utah. How about Flip w/ 30,18 & 5 last night ?

I would be happy for him and Charlotte if they can be a real franchise together, but they are such a joke. Gotta get rid of Lamelo and Bridges before I can take them seriously.

I saw Christian Laettner up close and in person, after his freshman year. He came to Lipscomb basketball camp and even did a 1 on 1 vs Lipscomb’s Darren Henry.
I think Flagg is the best 1 and done since Kentucky’s Davis.
He is better than Laettner in almost every way except his mentality (Laettner was a beast when he turned it on).

He will need to get better defensively but I expect him to be an NBA All Star from the start.
An NBA All Star from the start? I don’t know about that. Maybe if it’s just a popularity contest but not if it’s based on play. It’ll take him some time to adjust to the game at that level.

But we know it’s a popularity contest. He will be an All Star his first year. He will be the primary scoring option with a ton of media backing. ESPN will be pumping him from the start.

JMO.

Man, I honestly don’t either. I know that fan votes used to be part of the calculus.

Fans pick starters. Coaches pick reserves. It's really hard to make the all'star team these days. League is filthy with talent. If he goes to the right team in the east, he might make it.

Hornets would stunt his growth. They already have two top scorer types, and Lamelo is a dumbass IQ hooper.

Wizards have Jordan Poole who would likely be leading scorer, but Cooper would get more touches there.

Jazz have Markannen who has been all-star, but there is definitely enough ball for both of them.

But here are the all-star caliber (maybe forgot one) forwards right now:

Lebron
KD
AD
Giannis
Kawhi
Franz
Zion
Mobley
JJJ
Banchero
J Will
J Brown
Siakam
Holmgren
Mikal Bridges
Markannen

Good analysis. I haven’t paid close attention to the NBA in years. Honestly, the NBA game is boring to me. Started watching a little more again when Grant went to the Celtics and obviously followed Tobias and then DK. Other than that, it’s a league of walks flops, and kissing LeBron James butt.

Well, he is the GOAT

He is very impressive. Needs to mature a bit and get tougher in tough situations (he's 0-4 when trying to take game winning shots in close games or something like that, occurred most notably vs Houston), but he has tons of potential and is fun to watch.
