How important is the Kentucky game to you as a Vol fan?

I know it's been total domination by Tennessee.

Also know it's not near as important to Vol fans as Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

With the new SEC schedule coming, would it upset you if we stopped playing Kentucky every year?

I'm sure it depends on what generation you're from.

For me, I would hate to not play UK every year.

A big reason is because of my dad and grandpa.

They loved beating UK almost as much as Alabama.

I believe being our most played rival means something.

I really hope they go with the three permanent rivals and six rotating conference schedule.

Our permanent rivals should be Bama, Kentucky, and Vandy. TSIO is the most important to maintain in my opinion, but Kentucky is a close second. Just too much history.

Either way is fine w me. I’m a bit down that we lost two games prior to UGA. While I predicted 9-3 (with hopes doing better), I thought we would beat FL and have only one loss when UGA came to town.

TN has come a long way in a few yrs, but it’s still frustrating to be out of contention for the East.

Considering that UT must win out to have a shot at the East, I'd say its pretty dang important.
It’s no doubt important. We have to win out to have a chance now. Winning out, and you could see us flying right back into the top five, but that is going to be hard to do now. It’s possible though.

Very, very, very, very, very important. But it’s more about not losing to UK than beating them, for me. A win is just a massive sigh of relief. Losing to Kentucky in 2017 and 2020 were huge low points in my Tennessee fandom.

And like OP, geography is important. Grew up in Nashville. The 2 biggest out of state fan bases were Alabama and Kentucky. Those are the schools I hate the most.

One of the most important. If we aren’t competing for championships on a yearly basis, we have to at least maintain dominance over Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Otherwise, our program is a dumpster fire.

I respect them and it is a must win game ever year.

Agree minus the first 3 words of that sentence lol. Sorry in advance for the rant, but I don’t respect UK whatsoever. They are a joke of a program in my estimation and it absolutely infuriates me that Tennessee’s ineptitude from 2008-2020 and their 2 or 3 decent seasons in that time frame have allowed some of their fans to believe they are on the same level as our beloved Tennessee Volunteers in football. Really, anything less than an emphatic victory Saturday night will be disappointing. Double digits minimum. Which is something we have not done to UK in Lexington since 2015 and that needs to end. This pathetic basketball school needs to be shoved back in their place at all costs.

Beating KY is like taking out the trash…you’ve got to do it but the celebration is a little muted.

The Kentucky Football game in itself doesn't mean too much for me. The few UK fans I know have never really thought too highly of their football program and don't take pride in it like they do basketball. Many were just happy to be competitive, win a few games, and happy to be somewhat distracted long enough until basketball seasom started.

Basketball is another story becuase they are arrogant about their program and look down on non blue bloods. They can't stand that Rick Barnes has a winning record against Coach K.

All the games are important. Since my release from the hospital after the last game I was advised to avoid ALL alcoholic beverages and spicy foods and if I am good for the next 90 days, the events of 21 October will be expunged from my record. 😆😅🤣😂 Go Vols

If SEC goes to 9 game schedule this is important to take as our homecoming game. A game we should always win. 😂

Yep. If we lose to UK in football things are dire or they just get lucky at home. I cannot stand their basketball fans. There's no more helpless feeling in life than playing in corr-upt arena at night with TV Teddy reffing. Well actually playing in Tuscaloosa may have changed that this year.
