How important is the Kentucky game to you as a Vol fan?

Tennessee vs Kentucky is the third oldest rivalry in the SEC, behind Auburn/Georgia and Ole Miss/Miss. State. Kentucky is arguably our biggest rival in all sports; so yes, this game is important.

I really hope they go with the three permanent rivals and six rotating conference schedule.

Our permanent rivals should be Bama, Kentucky, and Vandy. TSIO is the most important to maintain in my opinion, but Kentucky is a close second. Just too much history.
I wish we had 3 permanent rivals with UGA, Florida, and Bama. I could care less about Kentucky and Vandy. Those have been scrubs and bottom dwellers who leech onto us as “their rival” for years.

Of course, our record will be better playing UK and Vandy each year.

It's devastating if we lose to them. When we win, I'm just relieved that I'm not devasted.
I was present in Neyland Stadium when KY defeated Vols in 1964 & 1984. Both losses were rare; after '84 Tennesse ddn't lose again to the Kats until 2011. It's a border rivalry that means little to any other fanbase. GBO

The Kentucky game is important in the same way that getting his hair cut is important to a guy in the military.

It's not really exciting. It's not really newsworthy (unless it gets botched). But it has to be a part of his life. Routinely. It would seem weird if it were suddenly not on the calendar.

It does help define who we are, even if not in any seismic or profound way.

Go Vols!

Either way is fine w me. I’m a bit down that we lost two games prior to UGA. While I predicted 9-3 (with hopes doing better), I thought we would beat FL and have only one loss when UGA came to town.

TN has come a long way in a few yrs, but it’s still frustrating to be out of contention for the East.
Sou you thought we’d be 9-1 going into the Georgia game, then lose to them and Vandy?

This. I don't care that we've dominated it. It's about history and mutual disdain. Tennessee has played and beaten Kentucky more than any other opponent.

Kentucky game to me is above Vanderbilt , Miss State & Missouri after that not so much, so next year in the 16 team league I'd put them on importance as 13th in the conference.

I say it every year…we should NEVER lose to Kentucky. All of my family is from Northern Kentucky. One was a UK cheerleader. I cannot countenance any success by the “Big” Blue….because that makes my family insufferable.

I would miss beating Kentucky every year. I wish they could bring back ole piss and auburn. For people like me who miss the traditions of pre-division sec, those 2 meant something once upon a time.

Many years ago it was a warm up for the next game.
In recent years it became a confidence builder.
This year it is a “ Season Saver “.

I know it's been total domination by Tennessee.

Also know it's not near as important to Vol fans as Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

With the new SEC schedule coming, would it upset you if we stopped playing Kentucky every year?

I'm sure it depends on what generation you're from.

For me, I would hate to not play UK every year.

A big reason is because of my dad and grandpa.

They loved beating UK almost as much as Alabama.

I believe being our most played rival means something.
Let’s put this way. We have won some Kentucky games that they should won. A couple of those have been in the last 10 years. I love it when we beat them and they think they should have won. Keep it thay way and everything will be OK. Kentucky gets all hyped up when they win 5-6 games at the beg of the year and think they are ready for the big leagues. Don’t let them see the light of day.

Kentucky is inconsequential to me. I remember I was floating the elk river one day and saw a kid on the bank wearing a "UK" tee shirt and my first thought was "He's a long way from England". Not sure if Kentucky was even my second thought. Probably the Budweiser.

Not what I posted. I predicted 9-3 beginning of the yr with losses to Bama, UGA, and KY or Mizz. TN seems to lose a game they shouldn’t, hence the loss to KY or Mizz prediction.

And while I predicted 9-3, I was hopeful we could beat Bama, UGA, etc. So to lose to FL and Bama was definitely a let down for me. We played poor football in two - three quarters in both games but has opportunities.

I don’t understand at all why it was discontinued. Football and beer are good friends.
I’m sure you know about the tragic deaths of the KY players. But time has passed and they could call it the “Barrel” or something else. It is nonsense to say the “beer barrel” promoted drinking. How about all the beer commercials during a football game?

Being a Ky native and living in NKY, I love it. I was just in Kroger getting Halloween candy among probably 50 big blue shirts/hats sporting my orange Tennessee hoodie!! They’re not looking forward to tonight’s beat down.
