How long a vol fan and do you care anymore?

I've been a vol fan 32 yrs. My care level is at basketball level oh we won good after this loss. If we don't heavily spend money this off season we won't ever win another title. Coaches need replaced as well. This is our only chance to fix and catch up to the elites. Nico is a mediocre QB. Historically we are a 8-10 win team. Next season we look to be 7-5 or 8-4 if we get lucky. Embarrassing night and year ahead as this game will be brought up all off season.
Easiest way for you to fix this is to just MOVE ON. I took this to mean, you don't care, period. A lot of good points but being a fair weather fan is what you are stating.
For us or against us, get a set and quit belly aching. IOW grow up. All programs in the SEC has been through tough times but a team will never pull itself out of a hole with fans like you.

Been a fan 38 years and Hell Yeah I still care. We were just in the playoffs. Remember where we were just 4 seasons ago? I sure as hell do. I know losing stings but look at how far we've come. We are back at the table. Yeah we got our asses kicked but the fact we are contending again gives me all the hope in the world about our future

Grew up a Vol. 50+ years of being a fan now. Went to college elsewhere, but never stopped being a Vol.

That said, I find myself being VERY casual as I age.

This seems very similar to Fulmer post NC when he got fat (literally and figuratively) and happy and seemed content to allow Randy Sanders to run the offense into the ground with the off tackle on 1st down, bubble screen on second, and X-yard out pattern on third, where "X" was the number of yards needed minus 2. Chavis would hold for 2 plays, then give up 17 yards in a dime package on 3rd down. Fulmer would then grimace, clap his chubby stumpy hands, and change absolutely nothing. He'd blame the players for 'failing to develop' and throw them under the bus. Coaches stayed in place. That went on for years. By the time he started actually mixing things up, it was too late. I hope that isn't repeated.

I still care a little when we lose, but not really. If we play hard and still lose it actually hurts a bit more, but even then by Sunday morning, I've moved on..

I see the same plays constantly called. Heupel saves his grimace and hand-clap phase for his very predictable press conference statements. Never changes.

Anyway, that's where I am. Flame away, but it just doesn't mean all that much anymore. The 2000s and 20-teens wrung the care out of me.

Coming up on the 35th anniversary of getting the power T branded into my soul. I care more today than I did yesterday. I care that other schools “hate us because they ain’t us” and that there is clear divide between a true VOL vs a fair weather fan. We may have lost a battle Saturday, but by god our war with Bama , FL, SC, GA , ESPN, the entire country is not over.

Shrug it off more now that I'm older..Still care and the alcohol talks some at times. Games like this just show where Tennessee is in the pecking order, and it's not at the front of the table obviously..
As has been pointed out, once before were embarrassed 42-17 in a postseason game. And it was the last game for the greatest QB in UT history. The next year, all we did was win a National Championship.

Care? Not anywhere near I used to. NIL. Xfer portals. Rent-A-Player. I don't go to Neyland anymore. The $1,000s I have to spend, the time away, I'm just passing on the whole scene.

Me personally, I’m 35 years old. I was born into being a Tennessee fan, as were my 3 children. I’ve been a fan through a lot worse than what we saw this year (it was actually a really good year…just ran up against a better team). I’m sure I’ll be fan through worse years in the future. But I sure as hell won’t ever stop being a fan of the Vols. The tires could fall off of every team we have and I’ll still root for the Vols. And if I’ve raised my kids right they will too..

"How long a vol fan and do you care anymore?"

Let's pay better attention to the brightest minds in the game. For one, Nick Saban.

He chunked the whole scene b/c he could clearly see wtf was going on in college football. NIL, etc. etc Xfer portal...etc. etc... rent-a-player,...etc. etc. etc. Perfect storm. What's left to care about? Allegiances are gone. And so go many fans. We matter. Saban knows this in spades and he punted when he saw this tipping point into the repulsive absurdity we have today.

Yes, Saban quit when he saw he couldn't keep a roster of 5 star players 3 deep.

60 years, and though it didn't turn out like I'd wished, I'm thankful that I got to watch another season of my beloved Vols. I'm not the type that talks trash to other fans, it's not why I watch. Tennessee is MY team, win, lose, or draw. If they never win another game, they are Still My team, but that's more about me than them.

Yep, back to losing to UF and Bama next year probably. Team won't have us fans to carry them at home next season

I am 74 and started listening to the games radio coverage in 1962. A vol for life. I think I am done pushing for a championship because this has gotten way out of hand. Its capitalism, which I am in favor of, but I reached my limit this year. OSU spent 20 million, we spent 10 million so now we must spend 10 more million. Once we accomplish that we will find they spent 30 million. All given to players and coaches who would probably do it for free? They must be laughing at us all the way to the bank. I will continue to follow the Vols until its over for me but they will feel no pressure from me to win championships. Just do the best you can with what you have.

40 years as a fan. Yes, I care but I don't live or die with it like I used to. With age comes perspective. I still get excited for the games and enjoy the season as a whole, but I've learned to manage expectations. For instance, I expected us to lose on Saturday, so I didn't lose sleep after the game even though I was disappointed with the way we looked. It took me a bit longer to get over the Arkansas game because I expected to win that one - although the saving grace was that we still had a lot to play for with the expanded CFP.

Been a fan since 1970. Will continue to be a fan. However, college football truly is a pro game. I have never liked professional sports and this pro sport is more mercenary than the NFL. It is going to be hard to continue to see the love of the VOLS in these players. If these players can’t love Tennessee I can’t appreciate them. It was nice to hear some of the players express their feelings about Tennessee. If VFL means anything to them I can support them, but entering the portal before and after the season is a huge sign and disappointment.

37 years old here and been a fan since i was like 10 and although i still turn on every game and pull for the vols games like last night dont hurt me anymore i've lost something in the past 15 years that made it hurt when we lost now it's just a feeling of "yep thats how it goes for tennessee".
It’s the natural evolution of Vols fans!

Born in Fort Sanders in 46 to a Torchbearer mom and Dad at UT Law - lived at Aconda Court (Alumni Hall 3-4 years) Class Prez in 64 built the concrete UT on the side of the Hill -the once open end of our shoe.
We have the # NATIONAL CHAMPS IN BASEBALL- THE #1 RANKED BASKETBALL TEAM and a football team ranked #7-- it's tough to feel negative - I cannot recall when we had it so good (Maybe sitting in the stands in TEMPE for the Florida State win and National Championship.
I was on hand for the loss to Chattanooga - The Boozer Bowden, and the Battle years, The return of Majors and the Rise and Fall of Fulmer. When were those glory days some of you seem to recall. A few series of 9,10, win seasons with a trip to a New Years Bowl was the best, as I recall.
I am not opposed to rolling the dice again if warranted- but CJH has brought us back from the Lay Down Your Head and Die Butch Dooley years and he will have to fukup far more than a 10 2 CFP season to get me behind some silly fire josh movement.

My awareness of Big Orange football began in the Fall of 1972 when I arrived on the Knoxville campus to begin Graduate school. I have been an enthusiastic fan ever since, in good years and bad.
I’ve supported Coach Heupel from the beginning of his tenure and still do.
Sadly however… as the reality of this new era in NCAA FOOTBALL really sinks in I’m afraid my enthusiasm for NCAA FOOTBALL overall has diminished. Might as well just go with the NFL and forget about the Rah-Rah college game. The sun has set on that and I’m disappointed.

We have similar viewpoints (ages, too?). Cynicism has beome a self-defense tool.
