I'm 48 and the first game I remember attending was the 1984 Bama game in Knoxville. I think it's only the 12th time in history that Tennessee defeated Bama & Florida in the same season, and it's happened twice in the past three years. My father is 84 and this was the first year in our lives that Tennessee defeated Oklahoma and two years ago was the first time in his life or mine that Tennessee won an Orange Bowl. We've won at least ten games twice in the last three seasons, so I'm so happy. I not only was a fan through the 2008-2020 Dark Ages, but I also was a fan during the 0-6 start in 1988. I still love the Vols and I'm so happy for their success, but I'm not so obsessed that I dwell on every single loss. Ball game losses hurt WAY more when I was a kid. Now that I'm middle-aged, ball games (win or lose) are a fun diversion and a fun form of entertainment, a break from real issues in life such as aging parents, burying other loved ones, and other real issues in real life.
Merry Christmas everyone!
