One could argue that UK has exactly TWO national titles in men's basketball that, at the very least, weren't led by a head coach who was found to have engaged in major NCAA violations (whether he actually received the sanctions or not).

If I were you, I'd enjoy the current state of affairs too, but this is how outsiders view KY Basketball, and, as has been driven into the mud, you're on a Tennessee board.

We can argue what should be...but we need to stay on facts. While it's widely considered Hall did cheat and helped lead into the Sutton scandal, he wasn't the one caught.

One could argue UCLA and Wooden did a lot of questionable stuff, but was never caught.

Im used to it. While there is a history of scandals at UK, it's been quite a while since UK has been implemented in anything. The UK Ath. Dept. did a great job of reviving the program w/ Pitino.

UCLA and Wooden.
It drives me nuts when people talk about Wooden and quote him as if he's the most amazing basketball coach and life coach ever. Without Sam Gilbert, he wouldn't even be a footnote in basketball history outside of LA.

Wait, so you're saying the 14 seasons of mediocrity at UCLA before the first title were just happenstance, and that he was due to turn it around into 10 titles?

I'm not going to disagree - UK has a checkered past. Anyone who argues otherwise either doesn't know what happened or is too much of a fan to admit the truth. I love UK and while I wasn’t around for the point shaving scandal (and only a kid for the Emery Express incident) I like to think that UK is aware of Cal’s past and they exercise an excess of caution when letting him do his thing. Not much could get Cal canned at UK but having banners taken down would do it.

UK coaches follow a pattern:
Legend (Rupp)
Good Guy (Joe B.)
Drunk (Eddie Sutton)
Legend (Ricky P)
Good Guy (Tubby)
Drunk (BCG)
Legend (Cal)

I would add that some UK fans would claim that we only hear about point shaving scandals from the 50s when the current bball team is killing it on the court – while there may be some truth to this if you are on another team’s board you should be ready for haters.

I am inclined to believe that today everyone who pays attention to sports is so jaded by the idea of amateur athletics when it comes to big DI schools (Ohio State, Miami, Baylor, UK, UT, USC, Michigan, UGA (bball) Penn State, SMU, Oklahoma, FSU, Auburn, Arizona State [total of 9 major NCAA violations-the leaders in the clubhouse – they’re tied with SMU for total number of major violations] USCjr, UF, UNC, Washington, Alabama, UCLA) that they assume everyone is cheating anyway. I don’t get hung up on what other people think – I just cheer my Cats, enjoy the good times and hope UK’s compliance staff has the guts to do what they need to do in order to run a clean program going forward. If they do not I will be disappointed but given the number of schools who do not, I sadly wouldn’t be surprised.

I didn't think BP was a scumbag (I liked him) and he got fired over NCAA violations. Just because you break a rule (or in Cal's case are presumed to have broken a rule) doesn't make you a scumbag.

All it takes is for Terrence Jones, or Teague, or etc., to flame out in the NBA, needing money from a book deal or an SI article.

I know Cousins didnt win a title at UK but he may be the first "super recruit" to flame out in the league. If there is anything sketchy with Cal he could be the one to break the news. Imo
