How long would

Nick Saban is nothing but a hired gun and couldn't give a rat's you-know-what about the University of Alabama. The best part is that you know they know it, too, and it secretly eats them up. But they'll put up with it as long as he's winning at his current obscene clip.

This. It is all business to $aban. I bet he can't stand all those screaming hicks that idolize him.

He also knows that no matter how much success he has he will never be idolized like the Bear.

I would take the success and put up with seeing his runt a$$ on the sidelines though.

75% of this board has determined that 5-7 with a loss to Vanderbilt now constitutes a good season. So, I'm guessing the answer is: They'll tolerate anything as long as you tell them to.

You are forgetting one thing this is not the vandy we kicked around for a 100 years, I don't like them but they have a good football coach and as long as JF is there they will give us a run for the money, now when he bolts on them then we will be king again for another 100 years, so what I am saying is I guess we rule 95 years out of every 100, I can live with that.:lolabove:

Texas fans are complaining about being "stuck" with 8 wins and Mack next year. If Butch won 8 next season there would be a petition to erect a statue of him next to Neyland's.

Total different circumstances. Fulmer won a championship and then became average just like Brown. Butch is trying to make terrible into average then into great hopefully. Brown and Fulmer took a pristine program with rich histories of being dominant, then dominated with them, then through lack of passion/better competition/bad recruiting took them on a ride to mediocrity. 8 wins is a stepping stone in the right direction for us right now, but once we get there it should become the the lowest bar set for acceptance. We are UT, we strive for more then being an average 8-4 team. We want 10-2 or better.

His last 10 years included winning the east 4 times. I don't get how 5 years later our situation is his fault.

He cant coach just a hall of fame coach, beat the hill out of bama most of the time 1 hang up the almighty gators, but I will take another 15 year run like we had with him atleast when we took the field we had a chance and you knew you were not going to be beat by half of a 100.

I think u r mistaking Fulmer for Chevis. Chevis was the reason Fulmer held his job as long as he did. Chevis is one if the best DC in the history of UT. Possibly the best. He knew how to get his staff together to recruit guys, and he knows how to coach, especially LBs. He shut down Auburn this year, and he consistently fields top ten defenses. So many people say he can't coach without top talent, but it seams even through the bad years of Fulmer, our defense was always strong, aka Berry, Mayo, do I really need to keep going?

Agreed on Chief, however I would also include Coach Cut as part of this equation. Chavis + Cutcliffe + Phil = success. Our W-L record suffered pretty badly in the years we didn't have him here.

CPF surrounded himself with good assistants, how dare him.

UTK, boosters and fans tolerate a NC winning coach that was constantly playing games to get more money? Wouldn't we want a coach that wants and is proud to be a Vol, win or loose....To a degree?
I like to believe UT wouldn't have Saban games.
He's great but glad he's not in Knoxville coaching.

Got too much on my plate worrying about the Vols to care about what is happening in Tuscaloosa.

Too much of a dog and pony show.

It's the same reasoning Ohio State was ranked as high as they were! He didn't win East outright all those times!
