How many still think Spurrier is a genius?

The Vandy game was a stake through the heart of South Carolina football this year.

Spurrier should have never left florida. He'd be making $4 million plus right now, and would probably have at least 1 or 2 more national titles and a few more SECs, plus he would be near the beach where he owns several properties. Now, he's stuck at a dead end program that has to fight to get to a minor bowl every year, and makes only about $1.8 million.

Didn't he buy land in Sevierville?

I would say that Spurrier and his legacy will be mostly identified by his time at Florida. Regardless of his NFL record, and quite frankly, regardless of any success or lack thereof in SCAR, I associate Spurrier with the Gators. Because of that, how could you dissagree he is one of the best of all time in the SEC?

He won at Duke.....okay, that's impressive

He dominated at Florida....innovative coaching personnified by superior talent...IMO

He sucked bad in the NFL...

Now 3 years into a stint at USCe and he's locked down his third straight 5 loss season...

I'm not saying he's a bad coach...I'm just not as eager as some people on here to claim he's a genious

He's 3 seasons into his job at USCe...this is the year that he's supposed to have his system and players in place...

If he's so brilliant and his coaching is so unparralleled then he should have USCe in a much better position by now...

At this point there no better off than they were with Holtz
I think he is offensive wise. He's a winner. I'm sure right now he is so ticked off you can't hardly be around him. Give him the talent he can score on any college team. The reason I think he is is because I've seen too many games we were on losing end in Neyland and he just ate us alive, year after year, Dukie included!:)no:)

I heard Jimmy Johnson sold docking rights on his pond to Butch Davis.
IC....Thanks for clearing that up for me...I also heard that Norm Chow was videotaped drinking cocktails with MH and J-Haslam aboard a Vol Navy yacht...

I heard that too. The scary thing though was that Terry Bowden was the bartender on the boat.

Wow! That's news to me.....I don't know if this is true or not but, my wife's-first cousin's-uncle's-brother's-sister in law Peggy said that Tommy Tubberville was spotted steering the vessel...

Lou Holtz was 33-37 at South Carolina. Steve is 15-10 (before this year) so far

Holtz had to endure an 0-11 season his first year to start building up the program. They were 8-4 in his 2nd season and beat Ohio State in a bowl game. 9-3 in his 3rd season with another win over Ohio State in the bowl. The next 2 season started respectively 5-2 and 5-3... until the Orange Crush portion of the schedule knocked the Cocks back to 5-7. In his final season, SC finished 6-5 and turned down a bowl oppty after the brawl against Clemson.

Similarly, Spurrier and SC still have the late season meltdowns. In 2005, they finished on a 2-game losing streak to finish 7-5. In 2006, a 3-game losing streak in November could have soured the season, but the Cocks pulled out an 8-5 season. Currently, SC is on a 4-game losing streak.

SC always has a little losing streak near the end of the season. Under Holtz, they either rebounded and finished with a losing record... or continued the downward spiral. Spurrier has thus far been able to weather the losing streaks the past 2 seasons.... but it this the year he ends with a whimper like one of Holtz' 5-7 seasons?

Whats really scary is he was steering with orange colored glasses on, and they weren't Clemson orange.

Holtz had 16 wins in his last 3 years at USCe, Spurrier has 21 already with 2 to go. If he only wins 1 of those, he'll have improved USCe by an average of 2 wins per season.

A better comparison is that Lou had 17 in his first three seasons - with an 0-11 season his first year. Lou had the best turnaround in SC history from 99-00.

The team Spurrier inherited in 2005 would have been last in the SEC with Holtz as coach.
