How on earth do we...

I'm pretty sure once rivals updates the rankings we will move into 3rd in the team rankings. KP will get 5th star and M Abernathey and M Ford will get 4th star. I also think D Kirkland gets bumped into the top 100.

We are about 90 points behind USC. If all else stays the same we should over take them for 3rd without getting another commit.

When do they update anyway?

True, but I have always felt recruits who Bama happens to pursue, tend to get thrust into the spotlight and bumped up in the ratings, where they would not have otherwise.

Case in point, that big DT from KY, last year, who we recruited but not heavily. He was a 3 star for the longest. But the moment Bama offered him, he suddenly rose to a 4* on Rivals. I forget his name, but he signed with KY anyway. So, yeah...I think a case can be made that Bama's rankings are somewhat inflated, just like their regular season rankings.

Voted no.1 all year long, but falls far short of that at the end, more often than not. I think their class is probably more of a 4-6 than a true No.1

Matt Elam is who your thinking of.

They do. We have 16 4&5 stars while Clemson has 11. So basically what they're saying is Clemson's next 9 are better than our next 4 based on their value system.

Apparently they take a random selection of 20 players, they must have pulled Lovingood and Townsend's lottery balls for us lol

I just recently started visiting 247 on a daily basis and it is the way to go. Debating a subscription. Should I?

If you were a Rivals fan before 247 started, I have news for you. 247 is Rivals. 247 was started by some of the best analysts and evaluators from Rivals. Rivals is still decent; I would put them a notch above Scout personally but 247 is the best service right now.

As mentioned by other posters, we have a legit 5* JuCo RB in Kamara and the points he has assigned is equivalent to a 4* Top 120 player - because Rivals do not give bonus points to JuCo's.

We will easily be in the Top 4 teams if they do.

Don't forget we have another potential 5* in the wings in Kyle Phillips, since Rivals has not updated their rankings after the AA games.

I dont know why you are sweating it, here in VolNation we go with the service that ranks our players higher. 247 has us with several 5 stars and rivals has with 1 I think. So its only natural that 247 is much better..... this year.

Seriously.....more recruits who have a higher average score.....and we're 2 slots behind? Wth?

I did not read through the whole thread, but I think Rivals only counts the top 20 commitments in each class.

My opinion is that they are bias towards the players that play in the All American game that they sponsor the over than the ones who play in the other 2 or 3...

I think they're also biased with high schools. A Maryville player would be ranked higher than say a Hardin Valley player because of the programs success, pretty much regardless of the individual talent...

The only thing that makes rivals anything at all is Hubbs IMO. If ir wasn't for Hubbs it wouldn't be worth a nickel.

My question is how on earth does Clemson recruit like they do year in and year out yet still has no trophies to show for it?

Is this really a question?

I think not. You already know the answer.

You're just asking this so we can all have a good laugh this morning. Thanks for that too. :)

At a glance it appears that Clemson has more higher rated 4 stars than Tennessee. In other words, Clemson has more 6.0 and 5.9 rated players than UT. That would probably be a big part of the reason why Clemson is still ranked higher.

I'm going with whomever Butch and staff recruits. If they want the kid that's good enough for me. Screw the rest. Waste of time. :peace2:

All I can say to that is we are filling our needs at every position and it doesn't matter where we are ranked, if we add a big OT to this group and keep what we got this is one of the top classes on paper that is that I have seen us put together as a fan in now 44 years as fan, talent everywhere.

I've always disagreed with this to be honest. A class is judged by exactly what it is, which is talent. How talented are the high school players you bring in?

There are too many variables between signing day and 4 years later. A top 10 recruiting class may flourish under Saban, but would bust under Dooley. Once the talent is there, it's up to the coaches to get the most out of it.

Yep. That's the difference between a "recruiting class" and the "football team".

It's 100% a formula...numbers are input, team ranking is output. This has nothing to do with a bias. Clemson has 2 5* players, like us, but has 3 6.0 4* players, too. Clemson also has 1 more 5.9 4*. Also you have to take into account the bonuses for overall player rankings. Clemson's extra 2 inside the top 100 help. Yet another difference (which hurts us and not them) is that JUCOs don't have bonuses. So within the realm of bonuses, we don't get it from Kamara, while their 2nd 5* does.

actually he never did, he was sky high on 247, but remained a mid-range 3* on Rivals

Bama recruits get bumps according to a fired rivals anaylst few yrs ago. I mean from the top 5 DTs or any position, how can one really know who the best is. But I do think they appease the bammer faithful bc I suspect some websites get most of their revenue from them. What's difference in a high 3 star and low 4 star. How u determine who deserves what? Truly a class is graded 4 yrs after they sign

They do. I for a pub that covers college football and in the SE, our biggest revenue comes from Bama as well.
