How on earth do we...

My question is how on earth does Clemson recruit like they do year in and year out yet still has no trophies to show for it?

Clemson is the biggest football team in the "Carolinas". Being from NC the best athletes care about BBall and USCe has sucked majorly most of their school history. It us changing slowly but Clemson has that tradition built up to pull a decent class every year. Their coaching is not great though.

All I can say to that is we are filling our needs at every position and it doesn't matter where we are ranked, if we add a big OT to this group and keep what we got this is one of the top classes on paper that is that I have seen us put together as a fan in now 44 years as fan, talent everywhere.

Pretty sure most people said the same thing about last years class. Hopefully we can say it again in 2016!

Matt Elam is who your thinking of.
Yep. That's him. He was a nobody to all the recruiting services...until the moment Bama offered him. Suddenly he goes from a 3* nobody cares about to a 4*.

In such a competitive division, and with us on the rise, this habit of services inflating the worth of Bamer recruits, is going to eventually come back to bite them in the bum, IMHO. Saban is going to believe his own press and feel like he's got another stellar No.1 recruiting class, when in fact most of his recruits are simply overrated. Blake Barnett comes to mind, as an example in this year's class.

I wouldn't trade any of our 3 QB's for him. Over-inflated rankings worked against FSU over a decade ago. They were practically unstoppable on the field and in recruiting. It all came crashing down overnight.

actually he never did, he was sky high on 247, but remained a mid-range 3* on Rivals

His composite is as a 4*. He wasn't a 4-5* on anyone's list until Bamer came calling.

I believe 247 did the same thing with Dormady, this year, too. Because he was injured his junior year, he was listed as a 2*. Once Bama got involved, it wasn't long until they bumped him up to a 4*

It's the reason I don't buy all the hype around Dormady like many fans do. Not saying he is bad, but because Bama was involved at one point, I think the services rate him a bit higher than he would have been, otherwise.

to be fair, he was rated an 88 by them as a junior due to the injury, so it's not like they had far to go, and it's not like they were wrong by bumping him back

jesus christ not everything ratings-wise is dictated by that team
