How Tennessee can beat Georgia

I am getting tired with writing off their game at Georgia. Tired of Georgia fans as well. I want to see the meltdown if Tennessee happens to win this game.

There was another team that had been dominant and looked a lot like this Georgia team. Just two years prior, people have stated they had the best team in College Football. That team was Miami. In 2003, Tennessee traveled to Miami and beat them in an ugly, sloppy defensive battle 10-6. I think how we played Miami in 2003 might be our best bet on how to beat Georgia this year.

Carson Beck threw 3 INTs and the passing game struggled against Texas. Tennessee needs to have Georgia do that, have their defense control the game, and the offense just be serviceable enough to not make mistakes and score once or twice.

Is it possibly, yes? Tennessee did it in 2003. Can we do it again?
Sure. Just score more points than the slobbering mutts.

Heart says GBO Vols by 50.

Head says we are going to get thrashed.

Kirby can scheme and he has athletes at every position. Unless we switch jerseys with Bama for one game to catch UGA in their jinx against them, we are going to get ran out of Athens like we usually do. Beck threw 3 INTa against Texas and they won by 15.

Don’t label me as a negavol for saying this, but I doubt Heupel beats Kirby in his career. Not at least until we have years of top 10 recruiting classes worth of depth. I would love to be wrong but this has multiple TD loss written all over it.

2003 Miami isn’t on the level of UGA right now. Sorry. 2001? Sure. The only way I see is beating UGA is if they just implode. They have been our kryptonite ever since Heupel got here. And with the way our passing game has struggled? You cannot be one dimensional and beat UGA. Right now that’s what we are.

Unless the passing game improves dramatically, it will be another multiple TD loss.
2001 Miami was a juggernaut

They have a more experienced QB than us and more depth on the OL. We are better everywhere else. I suspect a W, but if y’all want to lose sleep worrying about this game for the next 3 weeks, you do you 🙂

Heupel has beaten good teams on the road, but we're yet to beat an elite team on the road with him as our HC.

We're not gonna keep their crowd quite all game. The biggest thing Heupel can do, particularly with 2 weeks to prepare, is have the team prepared to deal with a hostile environment. Running the offense off a silent count without multiple procedural penalties would be a huge start.

Bama had most their 1st half running success getting to the edge. Well have to do something similar. It seems to me (going of 'feels', not rewatching) that most our runs are between the tackles. We pull the LG to the right side on an off-tackle counter alot, but that seems more designed to read the DE more than get the edge. I'd like to see something creative to test the edge along with a few QB designed runs.
Idk about elite but he beat the hell out of LSU on the road. You might specifically point out he struggles in big night games on the road.

I do think Kirby Smart has outcoached Josh Heupel so far. It isn't just the talent, Georgia's coaching and strategy coming into the games have been superior.

Play defense and run the football.

I don't know if Georgia can get to 21 against our defense. Hopefully we can put 28+ on them. Whatever Alabama was doing, Georgia looked like they'd never played football in that first half, then Alabama went into ride it out mode and Georgia came back.

Georgia couldn't move the ball against Kentucky, only had 260 total yards against them. Miss State drove it up and down the field on them and he's off the Heupel tree. I won't be stunned if they lose to Ole Miss the week before we play them. They don't appear to be what they've been the last few years.

I would be. I just don't think Ole Miss is that good. I also don't think Ole Miss matches up well against Georgia.

I just hope were not caught looking ahead. I can remember, I think it was 1979 (correct me if I'm wrong), Notre Dame was on the schedule here. We played Rutgers here and got beat. The next week we played Notre Dame and beat the crap out of them.
Definitely, play one game at a time .
Yep
Exactly the same situation

Naw, a negaVol is a different species. They lie in wait for an opportunity to badmouth our players, over, and over, and over. That's different from what you posted. I have my doubts we beat Georgia too. But I'm going to believe our defense has the formula for doing so. Harass their QB, and the secondary continue to do their job when he does get a pass off. Sucker I am, I believe.

Our oline, especially our tackles, would need to have a great game.
Nico would have to be on target and make better decisions about when to run and not take sacks.
WR need separation and help Nico by making the tough catches.
No turnovers. No stupid penalties.
No long pass plays especially to their TE.
Dline make Herman Munster (I’m sorry but that’s who he looks like) uncomfortable.
Make all field goals.
Catch all punts instead of letting them roll twenty yards.
Quiet the crowd by taking an early lead.

Dam-!!! Is there anything else!! (like score some points)

We beat Miami 10-6.

Just like Tennessee, Georgia's weakness seems to be its offense as well. I am expecting a nasty, defensive game with ugly offensive play, turnovers, etc.

The only advantage Georgia has on offense is its experience and Georgia commits far less penalties.
In this case how bout homefield advantage? Sure helped us in our Bama game. When things seem about even, homefield really tips the scale most times.

All things considered, it will be tough to get a win in Athens. I don’t at all mean this in an arrogant way, it’s just what I truly believe, mostly bc it’s in Athens and so far Kirby has always had the Dawgs up in preparation for the Vols.

Having said this, the winner will be the team that makes fewer big mistakes such as turnovers. And the defense that can get off the field on third down and the offense that can stay ahead of the chains and create high percentage plays. Just basically the team that is consistent in the things that usually lead to success. It sounds rudimentary to say these things, but so far this season neither team has played consistent good football, so the team that does this will be the winner. It’s going to come down to the LOS, barring an implosion by either side, this game will be won in the trenches. It could come down to depth or injuries on the lines, but the matchups won on the LOS will tell the tale IMO.

We beat Alabama playing our C+ game. And Alabama beat Georgia earlier this year.

If we bring our A game can't nobody beat us.

Games at Uga, where it will be just as loud as Neyland. That will affect Nico and the entire team. Not to mention uga's dline ; see what they did at Texas? Tall order to win at Georgia, but win the other games and make the Playoffs, then maybe catch them on a neutral field. Got to be realistic. UGA does amplify their crowd noise, and the offense will have difficulty with the signals. And Uga will make stopping the run a priority.

Yep and Uga's Dline is nasty with probably 4 NFL caliber players, vs UT's Troubled OT's. Uga could be in Tenn's backfield a bunch, stopping the run and pressuring the QB. They don't allow much scoring....

Two weeks to prepare? We're off this week, then it's Kentucky, Miss State, UGA.

Never write off any game 4 weeks before it’s played. Both teams have 2 big games before that game. A lot can happen.

This is the reason of paradoxes, improbabilities, and perhaps, irrealities. Bama stopped Georgia. NIU slapped Norte Dame, Georgia Tech tripped up FSU, hapless Kennesaw State knocked off Liberty, and don't forget the illogical Vanderbilt paradigm. So, why not expect Georgia to have a Murphy's Law incident? Well, like Sarah Silverman says, "It could happen."

True but Alabama.got Georgia at home so it is an apples and oranges comparison.

Home or road, if the better team brings their A game they will win. I'm not saying we can play like we did against Alabama and expect to win at Athens. You can't get away with the way we played in the first half on the road. However, my expectation is we'll play better. And if we bring our A game I don't think there's a team in the country that can beat us.

We can stay in any game with our defense. Don’t see anybody blowing us out. Expect a close defensive game. The key on offense is picking up their blitz packages. They have a bunch of them and Texas never adjusted. Expect them to pressure Nico heavily.
