Howland out at UCLA

Memphis fans are "worried" about Pastner bolting for one of the two open jobs in LA. If I were them I'd be helping to pack his bags and paying his expenses.

This seems like a crazy over reaction considering the guy went to 3 straight final fours until you realize he had Kevin Love, Russel Westbrook and Aaron Affalo on the same team and couldn't win it all. Combine the recent struggles with the all the crap that came out last year about not controlling his players and this is what happens, you get fired.

UCLA gets good recruits because of it's name. Ben Howland is not a good coach but a nice guy.

What UCLA wants: Stevens/Smart
What they'll get: Gottfried/a Duke assistant

Sorry, but when you continue to operate like Alabama football pre-Saban did, you're not going to achieve your goals. Going cheap for a coach like you know Guerrero will is a recipe for Sweet 16s at best for the next decade.

Jaime Dixon is a decent/good coach but he's done NOTHING to deserve the UCLA job, unless you count losing in the first/second round of the NCAA every year. Pitt is the biggest choking dog in history of the 64-team team tourney. I think Stevens like being an upstart at Butler--I doubt he'll want the pressure of coaching at ucla.

Heard from a friend that works at UCLA that their top 3 choices are supposedly Smart, Stevens and Buzz Williams.

Stevens isn't leaving. Williams likely won't. Smart is the most likely, but he's had the opportunity to take jobs at this level for three years and hasn't jumped yet.

Should have happened last year, but he sold his soul and made some sort of devils deal for this recruiting class with Shabazz. It obviously backfired, and I imagine that along with his mediocre last 5 seasons were more than enough to pull the trigger.
