and take this program to another level.

He’s going to need better coaches AND recruiters on this staff. TN football will slip to mediocrity if he doesn’t make necessary moves.

Sad thing is I don’t think either the players or coaches care as much about winning as our fans.
Why should most of em care? All these kids want anymore is a paycheck. Thanks alot ncaa…college football is officially a joke!!!

We just went to another level. Did you all follow the program prior to 2021? In 20 years we have won double digit games in a season 4 times, Heupel owns 2 of those seasons. Since our last National Championship, we have had 6 total double digit win seasons.

There is room for improvement, but some of the rhetoric coming from our fanbase is out of touch with reality.

He took us out of mediocrity and into respectability, but what he’s doing right now will never make us elite contenders. There’s always the chance he’s never going to be that guy and is a Mike Leach caliber coach with Mark Richt being his ceiling. We’re currently in a much better spot than most thought we would ever be 5 years ago. The problem is we seemingly fielded our best team in his second year and with a fanbase that is starving for a national or even conference championship, and we’re not seeing the exponential growth we saw in the first 2 seasons. He’s going to have to do some deep soul searching over the next week though. Is he going to continue to be a player’s coach and build a culture of the program being a “family” and his coaching staff be a reflection of that? Or is he going to start coaching with more fire and build a culture of excellence and bring in assistants that will push players to their breaking point to make them the best they can be? I’ve yet to see him rip a player or assistant's ass on the sidelines and I’ve yet to see an assistant rip a player’s ass. He seems to have more dialogue with the refs than his players and assistants on the sidelines, and that isn’t something a championship coach does

Will Muschamp lost his ever loving mind on people, where is he now? Yelling and screaming, grabbing facemasks, doesn’t make you a good coach.

We literally just made the playoffs as an at large. That makes you an elite contender. He has a sample size of 4 years and has done more in that 4 years than we have in 20+.

Hell, we currently are even under restrictions by the NCAA. He overachieved this year by most everyone’s pre-season predictions.

I will take 20 more years of what we had this year over anything we have had in the last 20 prior to Heupel arriving.

It's hard for me to believe that a fanbase coming off of the previous decade of embarrassment could be not satisfied with making the CFP. Makes no sense to me. I'm sure the coaching staff is not satisfied with a first round exit, but let's not pretend we didn't have an incredible season that 120+ programs wouldn't trade with us right now. Imagine being Bama, LSU, or every other SEC team except Texas or Georgia.

Am I happy about last night? HELL NO!

But there is no way I’d trade the last 3 years for ANY year since Fulmer got fired.

We have barely stepped out of the depths of purgatory and made it this far. Yes! I do want some changes, we should never be embarrassed like we was last night…No Matter the situation. We are Tennessee! And if your not with me, your against me!

GO VOLS 🍊

Benches for players and pink slips for coaches are tremendous motivators no doubt but both must be used wisely………

Just to throw in my 2 cents these are my gripes.

Huepel seems unwilling to adjust his offensive play calling even though defenses are figuring out the game plan to stop us our offense isn’t working anymore

Huepel refuses to hold his assistants accountable even though they are not pulling their weight

Recruiting and development is lacking, has been apparent we have positions that aren’t getting developed was apparent last night we are lacking in talen

Huepel has been bad on the road and especially at night since he’s been here. He will lose one a year that he shouldn’t

Id be shocked if Heupel fired anyone. He obviously doesn't do that...why, who the hell knows. But let's keep giving him bonuses etc.

And our hope that some assistants get hired away probably got dashed and exposed nationally, unfortunately.

Id be willing to bet it will be the same thing next year boys. Some are clearly happy with that.

Sort of a high level of pure stupidity and ignorance

We were not legitimate contenders. Making the playoffs doesn’t mean you’re a legitimate contender. You need at least 20 guys on your roster that will be drafted at some point to be a legitimate championship contender, and we are nowhere close to that. Heupel has done a good job at making us a respectable program but we have a long way to go. Also I’m not saying yelling on the sidelines makes someone a good coach. I’m just saying every championship coach the last 20 years is wired that way and Heupel isn’t

Banks, Ekeler and Martinez all have their contracts expire at the end of January 2025 so we will see if Heupel makes some staff changes.

The actual head coach of this team isn't satisfied with making the playoff. He wants more. Why's it "so hard to believe" the fans aren't satisfied with getting our teeth kicked in? Crazy post.

Are you the coach? did you put in 1000s of hours over the course of the year? No, you sat your butt on a couch and messaged away on your keyboard. I quite literally said the coaching staff isn't satisfied with a first round exit. My point is, after everything this program has been through, and is still going through with the scholarship reductions, having a chance to play for a national championship in December is something to be proud of.

I’ll probably take heat for this, and that’s ok, but Huepel is our Mark Richt.
Nice guys get to a point in their career in all industries that they can’t be nice anymore to be elite.
Not sure if CJH has the mean streak and killer instinct to make some very difficult choices that would probably get more wins but lose him some cherished personal and familial relationships.
