Huepel needs tough introspection if he wants be be long term…

We just went to another level. Did you all follow the program prior to 2021? In 20 years we have won double digit games in a season 4 times, Heupel owns 2 of those seasons. Since our last National Championship, we have had 6 total double digit win seasons.

There is room for improvement, but some of the rhetoric coming from our fanbase is out of touch with reality.

Yes - I don't get this either. CJH is doing just fine.

The NCAA didn't do this.

The Supreme Court of the United States did.

So, if you think people shouldnt own the rights to their image, name and likeness, you probably should call your congressman
Good idea Coach because any letter sent to congress incurs an immediate meaningful and heartfelt response. Not sure what Congress would do with any kind of urgency seeing as constitutionality of the decision would first require reversal by the court. Means like with most asinine policies we are stuck with this for awhile. The premise of this decision was borne out of the greed of the ncaa and partnering universities. That’s why I sarcastically thank them

Banks, Ekeler and Martinez all have their contracts expire at the end of January 2025 so we will see if Heupel makes some staff changes.
I know there are rule changes each year, but are there new rules that require us to:
1) run no more than 5-7 set plays on offense;
2) play soft zone coverage 5-10 yards off receivers;
3) make opposing slumping QBs look like Heisman winners;
4) fair catch punts and kickoffs;
5) refrain from blocking punts, extra points, or field goals;
6) have untimely penalties during key drives; and
7) play poorly at night on the road?

Let me start by saying I’m old and have been a Tennessee fan my whole life, but I’ve never see us get spanked like that in the first quarter of a game. I thought I was watching high school players. I’m not a fan of our defensive coordinator because he can’t make adjustments. We also need to double our NIL budget to attract more talent, but only if we have better coaches. I think Josh is done a good job, but he’s got to take this to the next level. We will have this embarrassment on us for a long time and we need to prove we belong, right now we’re good but not elite.

In his first four years?

Did he take over a freaking train wreck?

I will hang up and listen.
He won a big game in Knoxville his first season over a team that would go on to win the east and won the conference in year 2. Did he take over a program that was in significantly better shape than Heupel did? Yes, but Pruitt actually left the cupboard stocked a hell of a lot better than people are willing to admit. The NCAA investigation and noise around the program was a much bigger issue than the roster Heupel inherited. He walked into a program with Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, Cedric Tillman, Velus Jones, Cooper Mays, Darnell Wright, Byron Young, Omari Thomas, Alonte Taylor, Theo Jackson, Trevon Flowers, and Jalen McCullough. Outside of 2-3 transfers and 2-3 high school players every player that has made an impact under Heupel was brought in by Pruitt. Am I saying Pruitt is a better coach than Heupel? Absolutely not, but looking back now the program was in a significantly better spot than we realized at the time

How in your right mind possibly make that statement? Football for this group is 24/7 and obtaining success in a potential career field is the ultimate. Winning is everything and being part of an unique culture is a dream, a job, and family.

Fans on the other hand go home and forget, criticize or brag about their team vs players, coaches and staff hit the grind the next day and get prepared for another battle in 6 days. It is a 24/7 thing not a 4hour/2 day event. Plus injuries wear on players as well even tweaks so it becomes a mental issue as well. Players are fighting for a Sunday ticket and next level, but they don't want to let their family (team) down as well.

Saddest part about this comment is that you made a bold face statement on a msg board sitting behind a computer. Hope you get a carpal tunnel injury so you can justify your fandom.

When he makes changes you can come back and offer a mea culpa.

It's wild how you can look at our records from 2008 to 2020, then look at our records from 2021 to 2024, and the takeaway is "we are going to slip into mediocrity if we don't make moves."

Very seldom in sports do you remain in a stagnant state, thus, either a continuation of elevating the program occurs or we will most likely slip—it’s the nature of the beast. I’m betting Heupel knows there are fixable deficiencies and makes changes to improve those areas.

and take this program to another level.

He’s going to need better coaches AND recruiters on this staff. TN football will slip to mediocrity if he doesn’t make necessary moves.

Sad thing is I don’t think either the players or coaches care as much about winning as our fans.
What level did you expect the day he was hired taking over a 3-7 team? Did you expect year 2, did you expect year 4? No. He is well ahead of any expectation you had. We are well ahead of mediocrity slipping into play.

What makes yall think CJH wants to be here long term?

Really hard to know where all this is going to be in 3 years. NIL + unrestricted portal has made a completely different game that has shifted from where all the risk was to the player to where all is on the teams. As of now, everyone is a gunslinger and there is little development of diamonds in the rough since there is no incentive to invest in them to improve and then go free agency. Unlike NFL,, though, there is vast differences in the teams. No team will be deep unless they spend obscene amounts but there will be no consistency with a mercenary culture.

Fan bases are also likely to pony up for a bit but then see they dont even know the players and begin to back away. If people want to cheer for a pro-team, there are plenty that dont ask them for money.

There will be a spending war for a bit till teams wise up and decide that a new system is needed to balance risks. I think it will probably be done with contracts of some sort.

Until all that gets worked out, Heupel isnt going to want to go anywhere. he needs a steady place to learn the new coaching game. So far, UT has responded fairly well to NIL, but he needs to sort out the more permanent system. That could be 2 years or 3 but then I think he may go for the right bidder if we are not getting it done or vice versa.

I don't think UT cares as much as fans. The better teams spend more money on talent, period. Your expecting the coaches to consistently beat teams with more talent.

Vol nation the home of the gurus with all the answers… the microwave era never gives time to grow… it’s not enough to show significant improvement each year anymore… I’m just as disappointed in the loss as anyone. That was embarrassing but to suggest that heup is not doing everything he can is just silly… he walked into a dumpster fire and is still limited from the previous sanctions… we will continue to get better and continue to improve… my only concern is how bad we get beat on the road at times but I trust heup is working tirelessly to correct that issue as well.. he has shown me nothing to suggest complacency in any way shape or form… I think the fanbase needs to relax and trust the guys we got because we finally have a competent Athletic department.

change has nothing to do with it. I am not apologizing for your thinking which happens to be dead wrong, Your statement or thoughts is the reason we have problems. Go into the Vols locker room and say that to the players. That maybe what you want to think as a fan but it does not apply to a coach's or player's perspective. For you to think that is dumb.

What other option does he realistically have at the moment? Oklahoma? That’s the only job that’s even in Tennessee’s category that would hire him. He couldn’t cut it in the NFL with his offensive approach
