Okay, Hubbs has went to the administrators and league officials to find out just how many players UT can sign this year. Here's what he found out, and I'm going to try to break it down as simple as I can because I don't even fully understand it. Sab, Jack, bburger, 391, help me out if I miss something...

- You can only sign 28 players, but that does not count the players you can backcount from the previous year

- You can only bring in 25 players in AUGUST

- If you bring in less than 25 AND you remain under the limit of 85 scholarship athletes, you can backcount a mid-term (January) enrollee

Okay, this is where it gets simple...

- In 2008, we only brought in 18. We had 3 players from our 2009 class be early enrolls. So, of the 23 we brought in, 3 counted to 2008, 1 didn't qualify. We brought in 19 from last year after the backcounts. That mean for 2010, 6 can back count as long as we are under the scholarship limit by 6.

What all this means is that UT can backcount 6 early enrollees and put them in the 2009 class. Then we will bring in a class of 25 players in August for the 2010 class. This will allow UT to take a grand total of 31 players in this class!!!

Hubbs has confirmed that the Vols will be taking more than 28 players. We have 10 spots left instead of 7. This class is going to be sick...

That's great news... I'd like to hear some names start filling in some of those 10 spots soon. Certainly opens it back up a little for more WR's/DB's and possibly a backup QB.

Oh my. That just made my day. Wow. As if our chances weren't already good enough for a #1 class. Wow. This could be monstrous.

Oh wow this is good. I was under the impression that we were a little tight on spots, but now it appears that we are right where we want to be!

I wonder if the staff knew this all along...surely. Though I wouldn't doubt if they played ignorant in order to make some recruits think the spots were closing up. Which...they still are.

Exactly what I was thinking. It allows us to take a couple of stud players that we might not have been able to otherwise. For example, we could take both Wright and Riley at DB if they both wanted to commit.

that is great news... we also lost a bunch of kids after fulmer i would assume we have plenty of ships left to give out the next couple of years and we have lik 7 or 8 early enrolles next yr

So, if this is true, this opens up lots of new opportunities for this class. Does this add any chance at us taking a 2nd QB in this class?

Much needed. . . it feels like this staff manages to pull 2 positives (or 3 if you wanna count last sundays, lol) for every negative. I had never heard of the 25 in August rule. Great news though, thanks Vader.

yea we really needed 10 i thought we only had 5 to 7 and we still need to get 10 or 12 more here is 15 or 16 players at positions we need some more than others liefert and lemonier, juwane james, george uko, josh shirley, luc, dyer, keenan allen deitric riley ,khairi fortt, christian green, ari kouandjio, damian robinson, chriastian bryant and or cody riggs juco player wayne dorsey or ronald powell who is usc bound and james stone,if we can get 10 out of these 19 and or 10 out of top 13 named we would end up with the number 1 ranked class in country and it would be one step toward were we want to be and in 2010 we can go hard for more of the top offensive linemen and another qb and what ever else is needed

Who could we target that is a monster speacial team difference maker? We have that luxury now! I also think we need to land Three left tackle prospects and monster tight end. This most certainly would set us up for a 5 star QB in 2001 .With our current recruiting depth we can steal the best of the best in these critical areas for the future! I would also think a very special kick bloker would be worth consideration! If you can't take advantage of 32 to spots to target exotic spealists when could you?

I thought we would be able to count back a few players since we had so many leave. I think it also helps with the numbers that we have a few that will be enrolling mid term although I am not positive about that rule.

Hope recruiting shakes out like this given this new info:

QB - 1
RB - 1
TE - 1
OL - 4
DL - 1 if we get Quarles or someone of that caliber
LB - 1 if no DL then 2 Lb'ers
DB - 1

This is truly fantastic! We really need to load up on some OL here. 5 to 6 big uglies would be great and the rest with pretty boys!

ok this may be stupid but the whole back count thing confuses me and by the way you did a great job explaining it lord vader. If we back count 4 players in the 2010 class, do they count toward the overall 2010 class ranking? I know that doesnt really matter but I was curious.

Let's jsut hope the quality is just as good as the quantiy of palyers. I wouldn't mind signing 2 qb's if possible.

This is great news ! We need to save about 2 spots for after NSD. So we can get some Bryce Browns after the NSD.
