Let's jsut hope the quality is just as good as the quantiy of palyers. I wouldn't mind signing 2 qb's if possible.

I agree with this. Just because we can sign 10 players now instead of 7 doesn't mean we should. I'd rather not add on the three extra players if it means we're bringing on more 3* guys. Since 2011 is supposed to be a very strong year, I'd rather be able to have extra players then than fill up now just because we can.

Though if we can get 10 more 4* and 5* players this year, I'll take 'em in a heartbeat!

Awesome news!!

I expect it to shake out like this:

1 QB
1 RB
4 OL's
2 LB's
1 S
1 CB

that would be great to bring in 30 players to develop. That would fit Kiffins 3 yr timetable for improvement.

We will not sign 31. 2011 is going to be an even bigger year. We have to leave room to sign a full class there. But with that being said. I do think we will take 27 or 28 then try and get some of the bigger names this staff has high on their board and have continued to recruit.

Fantastic news - this is going to be a great February! And even earlier for that matter, since there seems to be a good number of guys eligible to enroll early.

As LV mentioned though the 85 max on the roster scholarship has to be considered. Even if you can backcount 6 spots how many returning scholarship players does UT have for 2010. If you have 60 players returning you can only offer 25 for incoming freshman. So LV do you know the number towards the 85 and also for 2011 with current signees. This is where it gets a little tricky in regards to roster management.

Also remember the number of recruits signing a NLI have nothing to do with scholarship limits. If I remember reading right the SEC said the 28 rule would go into effect immediately so you can backcount scholarship players but not NLI signees. The nice thing is though mid year enrollees can not sign a NLI and do not count towards the 28 rule.

If UT has the room for 31 scholarships, 25 towards 2010 and 6 to backcount to 2009, than the class could have 34 players coming in. Six early enrollees or JUCOs that can be backcounted plus 28 players that sign for the 2010 class. Three of those 28 players could grayshirt and count towards the 2011 class. If the staff wanted to get a huge class this year this could be a possibility. So maybe a few of the players that grayshirt are some player that will develop down the road. You can grayshirt as many as you want, but just trying to show an example. It still comes down to the 85 max roster limit though.

Yes so the big question is how many returning players for 2010 are on scholarships. By looking at the roster UT has 22 players graduating (Seniors). Not knowing who is on scholarship, but assuming all 22 are, which would be a good thing and assuming UT is currently using all 85 roster spots, than as of right now UT will only have 22 scholarships to offer next year to incoming players. Does not matter how many UT can backcount because the total still can not exceed 85. Now UT might take away some scholarships or not renew them on June 1st 2010 like UA did to make the roster work. So again try to find out how many returning scholarships players you have coming in.

I don't think the roster is at 85 now. I believe I read somewhere the roster is currently 67, but don't quote me. I do know we are less than 85. The only concern I have is that if you take 31, over a third of the roster would be from one class; which could force you to take fewer in later classes

Dont judge players by their star ranking, coming out of High School Colt McCoy, Chase Daniel, & Sam Bradford were all 3* QB's. While Crompton was a 4*.

I said this in a thread somewhere on here months ago, but I guess it was before it's time...

Actually you have to be at 77(76.5) to maintain DI status. So you have to have atleast that right now not 67. I was just going by the 105 man roster UT has right now, which usually teams have 85 spots filled. It really doesn't matter in the end because the coaches will find a way to make it work.

We had 5 transfer out mainly due to off field issues and 2who were not starters but arleady graduated. So that removed 7 from our rosters to open spaces up. In the end it all works out.

ok this may be stupid but the whole back count thing confuses me and by the way you did a great job explaining it lord vader. If we back count 4 players in the 2010 class, do they count toward the overall 2010 class ranking? I know that doesnt really matter but I was curious.

yes...

We have 82 on scholarship. They have been doing the math like crazy on VQ. With Berry leaving and natural attrition, we can make 31 work, possibly 32. Kiffin will be like Saban and get rid of the dead weight...
