Knight can't recruit at all anymore, and his tourney record was bad at the end of his career.
Separately, why would Altman come? He has a sweetheart 7-year/$2M a year deal with Oregon, which will be satisfied with Creighton-type results for quite some time in basketball.
Secondly, why is he a good choice? Altman's experiment at K. State was so-so; his record at Creighton was better in the first half than the 2nd half of his tenure there, failing to make the NCAA tourney 5 of his last 7 seasons there. He's not had a great season at Oregon. In fact, he hasn't won a NCAA tourney game in almost 10 years.
Finally, using the NCAA tourney as the standard, Altman's record is worse than Green's was when he canned him.
Altman's NCAA Tourney Record
NCAA Tourney: 7 out of 21 seasons
