Update: The wishes of the student at my school who passed away last week were that some members of the FB team be pallbearers and all the FB players and coaches be honorary pallbearers.
We had a small ceremony for him at school on Friday, and his parents were there.
The team played Friday night and all went into quarantine today. The burial is tomorrow and now it is not possible to fulfill his wishes.
Please continue to keep this young man's family, friends, and community in your prayers.

The thankfulness is that he will never know that it couldn’t be done and also that it would have absolutely been done if for no quarantine, and that speaks volumes about how well he was thought of.

At the service at school, coaches had his name put on basketball and football jerseys and put them in shadowboxes on easels for his family to keep. Everyone there got a long-stemmed red rose. We all walked up and put the roses into a big basket to be given to the family to take to the funeral home and the graveside. The easels and basket were on display in the middle of the gym floor. After that, several of the students said that meant so much to them because they felt like they were contributing something to his memory.

Everyone needs closure in their own way. For someone so young, it’s more to process than someone older.
