Not to turn this into a political discussion, but it's been pointed out that the wind gusts reported by the NOAA don't match up with what was recorded in Nassau in the Bahamas. Speculation that our government exxagerated the strength of this storm to use peoples' fear to support climate change initiatives.

The saving grace so far has been this storm has stayed off shore. The more damaging winds of this storm come off the top right corner of it.

Hopefully it doesn't get too crazy here. It shouldn't be as bad as Florida but I'm also on call for an emergency, so we'll see. I'm busting out the ole Strat-o-Matic for the power outage though!

They are saying to expect 6-9 foot storm surge in Savannah and they're estimating the storm to possibly make land very close to Charleston. Charleston could not only get storm surge but those strong hurricane force winds you get from the northeast side of the hurricane.

I'm in Destin and I was behind a group yesterday at a restaurant that said they were evacuees. I didn't flinch until they said they were from Ocala. It was all I could do to not smack the s#!& out of them.

Lol! That's even further west than Orlando. They just wanted a weekend vacation.

I've been sitting here without power since 3:28. Yea...went out 2 minutes before kickoff. Had to watch the entire game on an iPhone. Luck was not on my side today.

Hilton Head is a disaster.

My wife said she heard there was damage to the pier at myrtle beach. I know that's up the road, but I guess SC got the bad part.

I was giving a talk at NCSU in Raleigh yesterday morning and everyone's phone kept ringing for flood alert. I worried a little when the building's emergency alarms started going off and fire engines were blaring outside but when I asked if I should continue, they said "sure, you're the one at the bottom of the auditorium so you'll wash away before we do!"

It's beautiful here this morning.

I have a friend in Virginia beach, flooding is bad there. They are up on the 2nd floor of their house while they have 2ft of water down stairs.

It's finally starting to recede a little bit (VA Beach), but it's still really bad, and the high tide is coming in about an hour. It could get catastrophic then. Lots of trees down and power is out to large portions of the Hampton Roads area.

That's what she said, they got ran upstairs about 11pm I think last night. Her and the kids were up all night, she posted pics this morning and her neiborhood looked like hell.

So far the high tide hasn't been that bad. Can't speak as much for the inland rivers though.

Normally, there would be about 20 yards of beach
