hypothetically

Truthfully, Florida annually schedules one tough nonconference opponent, Florida State, because FSU is their instate rival. If you take them out of the equation and their less frequent instate rival, Miami, Florida does not have much of a history of scheduling regular season games against strong nonconference opponents.

Specifically with respect to this year, your first statement is defensible. In terms of our program's history, however, it is patently false. When it comes to football, no SEC university has more consistently scheduled nonconference matchups vs. marquis programs than Tennessee. We have played home-and-away series with Notre Dame (multiple times), Penn State (actually two home games as that one worked out), USC, UCLA (multiple times), Pitt (when they were a natural power) and we have Oklahoma scheduled for 2014 and 2015, Nebraska for 2016 and 2017 and USC again for 2021 and 2022 (see Tennessee Volunteers Football Schedules and Future Schedules). We also had Ohio State scheduled for this decade but the Buckeyes backed out of that agreement.

History isn't going to win anyone any games this year! Look at Auburn, two years removed from A National title they're the second worst team in the SEC!

I agree. Vandys history of winning (2012) isn't gonna do you any good this year.😛
