I’m betting Young doesn’t play

Speculating on the degree of injury is silly. Throwing after just two weeks on even a sprained shoulder can compromise his future. I don't think he plays. If he does, I would raise my brow if I was Young's father.

CFP national champion (2020)
Heisman Trophy (2021)
Maxwell Award (2021)
Davey O’Brien Award (2021)
Manning Award (2021)
AP College Football Player of the Year (2021)
Sporting News College Football Player of the Year (2021)
Consensus All-American (2021)
SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2021)
SEC Championship Game MVP (2021)
Dr. Pepper Commercials

What else is there to prove at the college level?

The Vols will have a much greater chance of victory if he doesn’t. Our pass defense has been pretty (very) bad facing average at best QBs. A healthy Young wouldn’t bode well.
No matter if he plays or not he won’t be 100%. If he plays he will be at most at 75%. But in under no circumstances is he healthy coming into this game

I think he plays and isn't 100%, although I'd prefer the backup who seems to be pretty average at throwing the ball down field. They probably start Young and then switch to Milroe at some point if we jump out to a lead.

With labrum surgery it's 2 to 6 weeks to heal
With a shoulder separation sprain it's 4 to 6 weeks depending on how severe . With this being his throwing arm he would be putting his season at risk with another good hit and he will make it to where it's easier to be dislocated in the future putting his career in danger.
You don’t heal from labrum surgery in 2-6 weeks. It takes longer than that. You are trying to get tissue to heal to bone. You could expect to be in an immobilizer for a few weeks. Then rehab.

I just googled it I am no doctor but it said 4 to 6 weeks and 4 to 6 weeks to strengthen it I don't think it's that he wouldn't have been dressed last week. It's probably a sprain and that is 4 to 6 weeks so 🤷.

Young will play but will he finish the game?
Yep, that's my thoughts as well. I think all the rumors of him being out for the season or needing surgery and all that are fake. I think if that were the case it'd have already been leaked or he'd have already had the surgery to reduce recovery time. There'd be no way they could hide that and it not get leaked.

I may end up being wrong but I think what's happened is he is banged up pretty good...probably deep bruise/sprain. At this point, if he plays he will not be 100%. They will shoot him up before the game because they don't feel like their back up can beat us. Bryce will give it a go because they don't want to lose to us and see this streak end.

Gonna have to get after him early and often. Hopefully his accuracy is off in this game. A healthy BY will absolutely light our secondary up.

It longer to return to a contact sport. Joe the insurance salesman can return to work much sooner. Not a football player.

As others have said, it makes no sense for him to play this game. This game does nothing for them win/lose. They are on track to get to the SEC championship either way so why risk him in this game. I think he'll be listed as either doubtful or "game-time" decision. I don't think he'll end up playing. I think Saban will go with Mildew for him to continue to get experience and hope for the best. Saban isn't dumb. He knows he needs Bryce to win the championship, and he would rather have him 100% if we did happen to make it to the SEC championship as well.

I hope he doesn't play...I want every advantage we can get. I didn't care one bit that we played a rooster and not a Weinke in 98 national championship game and I won't care if we beat Bama without Young.
I agree i think there is a good chance of Saban sitting him to have him healthier for the important SEC West games coming up

Surgery on a torn labrum is months.

If it is a grade 2 AC sprain then 2-6 weeks. If it’s a grade 3 he needs to shut it down and get it fixed.
It occurs to me that Bryce Young may have had labrum surgery already since we've not seen him toss a ball overhand in a few weeks.

I can't see even Saban getting decent orthopedists to "put off" needed surgery for Young so they can decoy teams that he's healthier than he is.

I can, however, see Young being able to get the surgery VERY quietly, start his rehab, and still appear on the sidelines as a decoy with Saban continuing to say "He's being evaluated...."

If BY doesn’t play, I think they’ll have their backup ready more so than they did against aTm. He’ll have a had fought SEC win under his belt too. It’s Bama, they’re like 2 deep with 5 stars. The Vols will still win, but don’t think it’ll be easy by any means.

If he needs labrum surgery, he's done for the year anyway so what's Bama or Young's advantage to putting it off?

If he really can't play, he can't play so the sooner he has surgery, the sooner he can prepare for the next step, which is more important than Bama playing games with his healthcare.

I don't see it. If he needs labrum surgery, he'd get it ASAP. To think Bama is somehow "decoying" by withholding surgery for a kid who already won the Heisman and has a sure NFL career ahead is a huge stretch in my mind.

Young is already wealthy, already has a Heisman, and is assured of a shot at the NFL. There's zero reason for him to play games with his future.

I'm not saying it's a decoy. He may have already had surgery. When he went down at the sideline I said that's how you tear a labrum.

Im pretty sure labrum surgery requires a sling and immobilizing the arm. You can wait weeks for surgery but you cant throw a ball overhand with a torn labrum.

Even if Young doesnt play, Tennessee will have to be prepared to stop a very strong running game. Gibbs is the best RB Ive seen this year just behind the Texas guy.

I don't understand the mentality some have of not WANTING the other side's best player to be in the line up. I understand the math of it, but not the sportsmanship.

The goal is to win and if QB2 being in gives us the best chance then I am all for it. If Young plays and we lose I am not going to walk away from the game and think "Well I'm just glad we lost to their best players" F that.

I believe you're correct. Great point.

Given that, I'm skeptical Bryce Young wouldn't have already had surgery if he needs it, so the best guess is he doesn't.

I still doubt he plays but Nick Saban is a cagy and ruthless coach. Heupel has got to prepare the D to face Young.

I've sat in Legion Field and Bryant-Denny Stadium both beside little blue-haired old ladies that would cuss the Vols so bad that a Sailor would blush. there's some sportmanship for you.

I don't care if they are starting 22 blind ballerinas (actually i would prefer that).I want to beat Alabama. I hope Young doesn't play. I hope Will Anderson and Dallas Turner get high-ankle sprains in warmups. I hope Saban gets exposed to Covid while filming an Aflac commercial and is quarantined. I want EVERY advantage known to mankind this Saturday. And if the difference in winning and losing is Young's playing, you damn well better believe i want him in street clothes.

All the 'i want to beat them at their best" people, seem to assume we are going to win. How easy it is to be braggadocios before the game...but we haven't beaten them 'at their best' in 15 years.
