Have fun living in Never-Never Land. I'll continue to stay in reality and believe that when a coach lies and attempts to cover up his blatant violation of NCAA rules that more than likely this wasn't his first time engaging in that activity. And, it also probably shows that attempting to cover up what would most likely amount to secondary violations probably means he's afraid of what the 'AA is going to find if they actually start digging deeper, which is what they're doing now.
It's highly unlikely that Pearl and company got caught on their first offense. However, I think we all have pretty much agreed that that 'illegal contact' is widespread in college basketball and if he would have come clean in the first place, this wouldn't be nearly as big of a deal.
The big issue here is lying to the NCAA and I don't believe it's unreasonable to assume this was the first instance of that charge for Coach Pearl. Even so, he's lucky to still be employed based on what has happened to other coaches guilty of similar infractions.
I must be in the 'under' category because I stopped making assumptions long ago.
The coach got his hand slapped deep in the cookie jar. Now we can ASSUME he will regain his 1.5 million in the form of bonuses later after this blows away, we can ASSUME he did far more than what was reported,,,,
I am in his corner and absolutely understand his overly aggressive attempts at turning a blase so so program into a legitimate top 16 program. Those on here who think anyone can just walk into Knoxville, play by the rules, and come out on top are the ones are making the real assumptions.
I must be in the 'under' category because I stopped making assumptions long ago.
Wouldn't it be an assumption to think otherwise as well?
We can all go through the books and see the dead spirits of coaches past who could not turn this team into a year and your out contender. That is happening here. All on here who think Donovan, Calipari, Cahoun (well, we know he does), and many others don't do exactly what Tennessee is now guilty of raise a hand.
Our guy isn't any smarter than Calhoun, it turns out... but he does win. so what do you want? He seems dedicated to the program,,, his sins do not seem overly serious at least to me,,, (money changing hands, free airline tickets, for examples)
Yeah, but most of those coaches were really terrible.
only enforcing my theory that good coaches are hard to find and harder to keep. I do not believe the AD's felt like these coaches were poor when they were hired. And just maybe it is because Tennessee is not a great place to coach basketball, or at least not until our present coach has now generated some momentum, which no one else has been able to do - consistently. These kinds of coaches are hard to find, he is getting better players and the team seems fairly deep for may be the first time that I can recall. Hey , he got a speeding ticket from the NCAA and since it was over a 100mph he got his license suspended and cannot travel for a year,,, I bet he finds ways to get in front of these kids - He may be calling in a video conferencing expert even as we talk about it. Point is I think he will succeed even though he has been handcuffed.
OMG you are so full of it I can't stand fans like you. Dude screwed up let just move foward.
