I am embarrassed

That's what people said all last year.

Uh... no they didn't.

I remember distinctly that everyone had pretty much figured out we weren't that great and weren't going to be that great after Dionte Christmas lit us up a few weeks after the first loss to Gonzaga.

The only game that remotely compares to this is the 2 point loss to Memphis... other than that we generally got blasted by highly ranked teams.

Nobody is satisfied with a loss... it's the ignorant wailing and gnashing of teeth. Sometimes discussing basketball with other Tennessee fans feels like trying to explain hockey to a four year old.

Well, the "It's OK, it was a good effort, we'll improve" stuff is getting old. That's what we have been saying the past 2 years. Eventually, when a team is not improving in end of game situations and half court sets, it is time to be worried

This is tough and I can see why people compare last year with this year but Purdue is a lot better than Gonzaga was last year.

who cares if he took a three and they only needed two. He had the most open shot of the night and missed it. Just because it's a three doesn't make it a bad shot. I think some of these people have never played basketball

Not of our program, but of a fan base that cries and says they are disgusted when we lose a game by 1 point to the #6 team.
We looked about as good as our ranking suggested.

We will now roll through a bunch of nobodies and stay about the same place in the polls by the time we play Pastner and a Memphis team that looks excellent. Will this team want redemption against a Kansas team that shellacked them? Will they buy in to play the defense they need to beat UK?

It looks pretty good to me at this point.

Also my complaint's about the refs have not gone away. They treated this like a church league game. Skylar McBee was called for every hand check foul in the world but when he is being kicked on the ground there is no technical. Garbage.

The game ended with Wayne Chism being fouled and then not being able to get a foul call. Awful...

I am also glad I am not in the Virgin Islands. Watching their cheering fans I wanted to comment on the dog faced escort of one of those losers and get them to hit me so I could stomp them under the bleachers.

I'm embarrassed by fans like you that feel relief in only losing by one point to a team only ranked 3 spots better. Why would one expect us to beat Memphis, Kansas, or Kentucky? I suppose that fans like you will find satisfaction if we can play within 10 points of these guys.

My bet is you improve on your spelling before this team makes a final four.

And then there are some(you) that makes one wonder if they'd ever watched a basketball game.

Well I think this team has Improved but hey look at it this way next year we should be pretty good cause Scotty Hopson isn't going anywhere :)

So I guess we won't be stacked until then. Well, at least I have 1 more year.

Pearl is over paid, but I can remember in buzz petersons last year when I was so excited to be 14-9, I don't like making early exits in the tournament but hell were making it to the tournament just wait when Bruce gets this team stacked Voldad will be no where to be found....

I predicted before the season we would lose to memphis on the road, beat kansas and uk at home and lose to uk on the road. I thought we would beat purdue. We still are in play for a one seed, but a two seed looks much more likely at this point. An elite 8 still looks very possible and would make me very happy. If it would not make you happy I will guess you are a bandwagon fan who used to cheer for duke or unc and never attended a houston or o'neill era game.

If we lose to Memphis, we definitely aren't worthy of a 1 or 2 seed.

Hmm...

I will not go crazy and mock this as if we only lost to Memphis all year.

Lets say we beat Kansas and UK once as I predicted, beat LSU, beat Ole Miss, beat Vandy and Florida twice and at least one of those teams are ranked.

End the season with 4 losses and 1 is by 1 to the number 6 team and another is to Memphis at Memphis? I am sure that by the time the tourney comes the Tigers will be ranked pretty well.

If we end the season with 4-5 losses, as long as none of them are to a suck team or by 30, we will be in the running for a 1 seed. I do not see 4 teams this year finishing with less than 3 losses who are playing a decent schedule.

I think this team is improved. Our D looks improved. Folks, we aren't going to beat a top ten team when your top guard doesn't show up. I knew before this game that if Hopson didn't have a good game it would be very difficult to beat Purdue. Add on top of that JP having zero points and zero rebounds. We should of won this game. We simply made to many mistakes. To be honest, I don't know if we can make it past the sweet 16 the way we play ball.

the fan base has a right to be upset... The end of this game was eerily similar to the end of the OK St. game last spring. THe play at the end of the half was a clusterF*** too. Pearl has yet to get these guys on the same page on offense when the game is on the line with time winding down.

One of their top guards was out.

 This team will not get to the Final Four with the lackluster flex offense we demonstrated tonight. Purdue is slightly overrated I would say. They are easily top 15 in the nation though. So you are saying we will get to the Final Four over teams like...Kansas, Michigan St., Nova, Duke, Syracuse? Those teams all have the ability to slow us down, especially teams like 'Cuse. We have to show some signs of competency in the half court. It's too early too judge this team, good or bad. 15 games or so in we should have a great indication of how good we are.

Only team on that list I feel like would certainly drill us tomorrow is Syracuse. It looks like the best executed 2-3 zone I have seen from the Orangemen in years and we do not have the shooters at this point to shoot over it.

Villanova is a team I wish we were playing tomorrow! Scottie Reynolds would not be able to overcome the fact that we would eat them up on the inside. That game would be disappointing if Chism and T Smith did not both finish with 20 plus.

You weren't watching the same game last night. We had them beat and with more discipline and coaching we could have probably beat Purdue by 15.

LOL at us being 3 games into the season and you're discussing possible seeding already.

Yeah....there's no reason to talk seeding at this point. I see a pretty similar team to the one that played last year. We're a bit tougher on Defense and seem to be shooting FT's much better. We're very sloppy on offense and I think we just generally lack discipline. If Pearl takes this team to the Sweet 16, I will be EXTREMELY impressed. We're a good team...we're not great.
