I am embarrassed

The refs were horrible. Acted like they were calling a middle school girls basketball game instead of a game against two top ten teams. However, I did not think it was one-sided in the least. It was horrible for both teams.

I was angry about the loss when it happened, but it isn't too big of a deal to lose in a tournament championship in November by one point to a top 10 team. Our team looks very good to me and if Purdue is ranked where they should be then our season might just be something special. In the two sweet sixteen seasons we had pretty bad losses early to Butler and Texas. The team got better. Hopefully a 1 point loss to Purdue will do nothing but inspire confidence and hard work to get better.

I was very impressed with the effort and intensity of the defense. We are better than last year. We still do not play smart and make poor decisions at crucial points in close games. There was absolutely no reason not to take the ball inside on our last possession, with both of their big men out with fouls. However, it is early in the season and, hopefully, our decision making and half-court offense will improve as the season goes on. If we continue to play with great effort and defensive intensity, we will be fine and will have a very good season.

I've never understood being satisfied with a loss. Especially when UT should have won.

No one on this board is satisfied with this loss! Where do you get this? Yeah we COULD have won, but I don't necessarily think we SHOULD have won. We went a solid 5 minutes without scoring a single bucket in the second half. I'm surprised they didn't get a 10 point lead. The point to take away from this game is that we can play like crap and still be in the game against a very good team. Yeah, I wish we would have won. But 10 out of 10 teams will take an open 3 at the end to win. We just didn't make the shot. .

The game was sloppy all the way around by both teams. While I'm not satisfied at all with decision making, or lack thereof, I can't believe we are already making final judgements on what this team will and will not be. It's five games into the season folks.

Seriously...seeding? In November? We lost to Texas by 30 in November of 2007 and ended up later being ranked #1 in the nation. (of course nobody saw that because it was the same day of the UK football thriller). Anyway...WAY too early for all of this.

We may be fine and go on to exceed all historical precedent by making a final four appearance or we may underachieve and lose 10 games similar to last year (although in my opinion we look markedly better in some key areas this year). Either way, no one can legitimatly predict either scenario based on this one game. If Chism's shot had gone in, all of the same negative issues would still be there but everyone would be talking about #1 seedings and things which would be equally premature.

This time of year is about building chemistry and getting better. Unless we lose to one of the cupcakes coming up in the next few weeks, it doesn't really get serious until January rolls around.

By the way, that same Syracuse team that was brought up earlier lost their 2nd exhibition game to something called "Le Moyne". They have gone on to beat Cal and UNC by double digits. I'm certainly not happy or satisfied that we lost but its way to early for some of the talk I've seen on here.

There are some Premature Prognostications going on in this Basketball Forum.

Not of our program, but of a fan base that cries and says they are disgusted when we lose a game by 1 point to the #6 team.

We looked about as good as our ranking suggested.

We will now roll through a bunch of nobodies and stay about the same place in the polls by the time we play Pastner and a Memphis team that looks excellent. Will this team want redemption against a Kansas team that shellacked them? Will they buy in to play the defense they need to beat UK?

It looks pretty good to me at this point.

Also my complaint's about the refs have not gone away. They treated this like a church league game. Skylar McBee was called for every hand check foul in the world but when he is being kicked on the ground there is no technical. Garbage.

The game ended with Wayne Chism being fouled and then not being able to get a foul call. Awful...

I am also glad I am not in the Virgin Islands. Watching their cheering fans I wanted to comment on the dog faced escort of one of those losers and get them to hit me so I could stomp them under the bleachers.

No offense Mike but have you lost your mind , we were terrible against Kansas and they were 2 points from being worse than terrible . If you guys dont roll over us i'll be amazed . I hope the TIGERS win but I just dont see it happening !

Both teams have tremendous size and speed. When two teams that are freakishly athletic clash sometimes they both look terrible. When they play teams that have less talent, they both win by 15-20.

I predicted before the season we would lose to memphis on the road, beat kansas and uk at home and lose to uk on the road. I thought we would beat purdue. We still are in play for a one seed, but a two seed looks much more likely at this point. An elite 8 still looks very possible and would make me very happy. If it would not make you happy I will guess you are a bandwagon fan who used to cheer for duke or unc and never attended a houston or o'neill era game.

Again, making end of season predictions after 5 games is fruitless and speaks of stupidity.

Fruitless?

Can you please explain what fruit you are producing on a message board?

Preseason, early season, mid season, predictions are fun. They get easier as the season goes along obviously and losers like to act as if they are amazing if they pick UNC in the Title game last year by March when everyone knew absent a plane crash they would be in the Final 4.

Mock recruiting classes are fun to make, so are predictions about teams, conferences etc,

Why do you come to a message board? Is it fruitless to crow about Cornel beating Alabama and being a top 25 team when Alabama is sucking and Cornel is 2-2 with 1 brutal beatdown?

Show me where I have made any comment about Cornel or Alabama! I come hear to view folks that discuss UT basketball based on what is actually happening and on factual observations, not on some far sighted, uniformed, fruitless, senseless predictions. You come making uniformed predictions hoping beyond hope that somehow something will actually happen and you can pretend to have great basketball knowledge. Your posts are a complete waste of time to people who want to discuss the reality of our team based on actual outcomes of games.

TN will wear black uniforms in basketball this season.

I will try to come up with some more uniformed predictions later...
