So, since Pearl has scrapped the system those of us with the audacity to question The Tan King said would never win big in March and we're suddenly in the Elite Eight, we're supposed to join in with the clowns who defended shooting 33 teams against a group of Oompa Loompas in the 'AAs last year and act as if Renaldo Woolridge and Skylar McBee are Karl Malone and John Stockton? No thanks.

Oh come on Hat. We were one non-call on a ticky tack touch of Conley or one made basket from being there in 07. I know you think this validates your opinion, and I'm not completely in disagreement, but there are a ton of different ways to win basketball games. If this team had the capability to occasionally play that frenetic pace I think we'd be able to make much more use of our substitutions and it would be a nice tool to have in our box.

Witch Doctor say when the zombie shows up at the door with your invitation then you tell him you refuse..lol. Nothing wrong with people questioning a 50 year old coaches decisions but there is on hating 18-22 year old kids because they are developing/reached the end of their abilities.. recruiting is a crap shoot, no need to hate/disparage a kid.(not saying you have, general statement)
Bones never lie.

How many team that play a trash style like UT played Pearl's first four years will be playing the next two days?

I've never quite understood how saying a kid can't play at the SEC level is "hating" them. I'm a trial attorney. I'm pretty sure you said you are a songwriter. We both get very public and very pointed public feedback on our work. The same holds for anyone who puts on a uniform at the bigtime college level. It's part of the deal. If you want the opportunities and benefits that come from being an athlete at UT, you pay the price. If not, go play at Cal Irvine.

Find 1 of my or Hats post that says that. Bet you can’t.
Please, he and the rest of them are way too busy making these stellar threads. You cant say anything negative about our coaches without someone questioning your fan hood. Ridiculous

I can't say for sure BearCat but I would assume you must be one of the negatives. :D

I am done here... got some Golf Clubs to build and few fittings coming in today. Wish I was playing some Golf. :)

Much like this thread, you are crash and burn wrong, but go ahead and continue to tell me how you are such a great fan for calling out all these "naysayers", thanks for your service.

I still want to know where all these "Pearl needs to be fired" posts were, other than drive by posters that have no credibility.

How many teams almost exclusively play zones like Baylor or Syracuse tend to make deep runs? As a basketball non-expert I tend to believe that it's more a matter of doing what you do with tenacity and confidence rather than doing one particular thing that is strategically superior. That's not to say strategy is irrelevant, only that it's just one piece of the puzzle.

If Bruce is going to follow the our 10> your 7 philosophy(and it seems he will) it only makes sense for him to at least somewhat utilize a style that would complement it. I am hopeful that the success we have had with the style we have played this year combined with his love of the press will allow us to forge a successful blend of the two. Whether you like the press or not there are some teams that just can't handle it, and I would rather be able to pull it out when appropriate than not have it at all.

let. It. Go.

Celebrate the victories. There is no argument here. Pearl and this team have proven the doubters wrong. So what? Everybody is celebrating now, including anyone who doubted. That's a good thing. Be happy.

Seriously, these posts are childish.

Witch Doctor bet youre a pretty good attorney. Witch Doctor a songwriter(do more studio stuff these days..(I like that creative side in later life) I agree with most of what you say, I guess I just have a soft spot for anyone in orange as I love the kool-aid too(i can admit). I think some of the other comments from some have been out of bounds.(dont call me out and make me look for them now....waaayyy tooo lazy..hehe)
Love to debate!

I would like to see these as well. It seems as though if you didnt think Pearl was the greatest BB coach in the history of BB that you were bashing him along with the team.

You don't beat good teams in March with a press. If that's your weapon of choice, you become Tom Davis.

Bill Self is nodding in agreement at home on his couch while the tournament continues without them. That game is a perfect example of refusing to utilize the assets at your disposal, and you damn well know it.

Pearl has done more than any other Tennessee men's basketball coach. He is not John Wooden.

Everyone is open to being criticized. Last night's game wasn't perfect (see the moaning and crying and "we're doomed" posts in the game thread) but it was beautiful!

Thanks Coach Pearl! Now keep getting better.

Yet, he gets to look down at the gargantuan ring on his finger as validation of doing it his way.

I really think Pearl has done a masterful job as the only offense we ran before Jan. 1 was called "Get Tyler to the NBA" and afterward Pearl had to get back and change up alot of things...I have hated to say it and I still feel Tyler is all Vol but his presence hurt us in some games this year. I think the team was playing much slower when he was on the floor..Its not that he is a bad player; but the chemistry wasn't there...happens in other things not just sports.

Great point. Self is a great example of a guy who has just never had any success in the 'AAs.

it's amazing to watch ... tyler was great as one of the weapons on the floor in years past... just not as good as the main weapon this year ...

it's hard to know exactly what went on behind the scenes, but you have to believe that he more or less fell on his sword for the other 3 guys in january..

I think Phil Fulmer has one of those...did that make him infallible?

If Memphis doesn't collapse worse than we did against Ohio State in 07 he doesn't even have that one. So we collapse against OSU and that proves Bruce's style is a failure(yet Matta is still an idiot in your book), but Memphis folds like a card table against Kansas and somehow that validates Self as a coach and doesn't tarnish your view of the cheating scumbag Calipari. I think your bias is showing.

The fact remains he started pressing with five minutes left against UNI and it ate them up. If he'd done it with ten minutes left we wouldn't be worrying about Michigan State tomorrow.

I'm not advocating we press all the time no matter what, just that it's better be able to do it than not be able to do it.

Self has about 7 straight conference titles; how many did Phil have in 17 years?

No, he's a great example of how steadfastly adhering to one style gets your ass beat when you run into a team that can handle it. Go ask Kansas fans how much they enjoy Self losing well before his seed should over half the time. Which is why I'm saying just because we are a great halfcourt team this year that doesn't mean we should abandon the press and Pearl's uptempo style completely. The goal should be to blend the two.

Yeah, because the SEC in football is a great comparison to the Big 12 in basketball. There are five or six of the twenty or thirty greatest football programs of all time in the SEC. How many bluebloods are there in Big 12 basketball? Plus losing ONE game in football can cost you that chance. Not so in basketball.

Or sucking for a decade can cost you that chance.
