A few weeks ago I was ready to fire Dooley and donate $ to get him out.

However, the offense is darn good and we can only imagine what it would be like if the defense forced a punt or 5 a game.

That and as crappy as the defense is the team hasn't quit on Dooley. The kids are playing for him.

If we had a top 50 do defense we would have won 9-10 games this year.

Like every Vol fan I am shocked at how bad the D is.

Short of hiring Gruden I don't know that firing him is a good thing. Firing Sunseri might be LOL

Get off the fence! It can cause reproductive problems down the road.

Obviously there is a problem with the defense. The key question is where to put the blame. Is it Sunseri? Is it Dooley? Is it Hart? Even if it is just Sunseri, which one really drove that hire? Is this a one year anomaly? What does it take to turn it during the off-season? Damitol, I'm going to have reproductive problems down the road, too.

Remember how you felt when Troy was going up and down the field on our defense.
Remember how you felt when Bama ran rough shot over our defense.
Remember how you felt when UF killed us in the 4th quarter.
Remember how you felt when Akron ran all over us.
Remember how you felt when Ga State ran all over us.
Remember all the bad in game decisions.
Remember our players looking clueless on defense.

Facts.
Kiffin has more SEC wins than Dooley
Kevin Sumlin has more SEC wins than Dooley.
0-5 to start the season in the SEC for the 3rd straight year.
0-15 against ranked teams.
721 yards against Troy, Troy!

We have to fire the guy. His record speaks for itself.

The problem with our society today, is we make looking for who to blame a priority over true analysis and/or common sense. Your questions show at least a search for a core cause to the issue. My personal thought is that the # 1 issue is our slow LBs and CBs plus their frequent inability to tackle. The slowness can't be changed but tackling issues to me means they aren't being taught fundamentals.

I totally agree. I had posted in an earlier thread about the specific problems. I think the key is to understand how to address those issues. It isn't about blame and perhaps that was a poor choice of a word. It IS about responsibility.

You people and all your "Kiffin facts"..... Doesnt matter what anybody else is doing or what anybody else has done, what matters is who we have right now isnt getting it done. You dont need to spew worthless facts to prove it. Anyone with eyes can see he isnt getting it done. Get over it.

I want Dooley gone too, but damn. Kiffin isnt doing very good with what he has now and I sure dont give a sh*t what he did while he was here.

+ if dooley stays we will fininsh in the bottom three [sec] in recruiting this year and we will have a terrible recruiting class next year because Dooley is a lame duck.

if dooley stays we will average 60,000 in attendance next year.

Funny how some are able to hold Sal completely responsible for our atrocious D, but can't seem to put the responsibility of being 0-5 on Dooley. Inconsistent imo.

The #1 problem was switching to a 3-4 defense in the first place. The offense is playing well but never made key plays against SEC competition. I like Dooley but he need to go along with the rest of the staff except for Graham and Pittman. While at it fie Hart and Jimmy Cheek as well.

You can't use the offense as a reason to keep him. With the athletes we have plus the improvement of the o-line and rb's it should be a given to perform very well. I don't think any of the improvement is from anything Dooley has done except hiring good position coaches for the offense. With giving him credit for the hiring of the offensive coaches he also deserves all the negative credit for whatever you want to call the so called defense.

Joker Phillips in 2-plus years at UK — 12-23 overall, 4-19 in the SEC, 0-1 in bowl games;

Derek Dooley in 2-plus years at UT — 15-19 overall, 4-17 in the SEC, 0-1 in bowl games

Dooley is not the answer at HC for Tennessee. Not sure why people having realized that after the product we have had over the past 3 years.

Hopefully we can cut bait on this loser and get a good coach to bring us back.

Who is his replacement? Seriously Gruden to NFL Strong staying put....running out of options Petrino ---- no. Who is his replacement Smart doubts... No splash.

This is the problem no coach with any splash will accept this job.....we are stuck.....and it sucks....our name does no recruit like it use to so you better get a coach that can coach recruit and adjust on the fly.....

Winning cures everything but we have not had a solid overall win since Fulmer

Yes, i can for two reasons.

1. I can make that claim because I have a computer connected to VN and know how to type the claim. Whether you agree with it or not is a different matter.

2. The improved OL is directly related to hiring decisions CDD made so if you're going to damn him, at least give credit where it's due as well.

Now, I have been not shy about my CDD support but I also and have said, the need for RESULTS. We don't get them, things must change. I do believe he's on the cusp of turning the program around just not fast enough to suit most Vols fans. Once again, if we had a decent defense, we'd be winning more. Sunseri was hired to make the defense decent. I believed in him until Troy. I watched stunned beyond words with a mixture of disgust at how this slightly above high school level team kicked our defense in the rear and made them like it. Now, i know we have injuries, but that's not really the problem. It's tackling technique and just plain slowness of player personnel. Correction of the first problem would nullify a lot of teh second from what I've seen because often, the defense is in position.

But nevermind, what is, is, what will be, will be and nothing is what it either is, or was. :whatever:

I'm on the fence too.

I really like Dooley, but he needs to win out convincingly. Including the bowl game.

The OP is exactly what is wrong with America. Touchy, feel good, don't make people work. Let me leave your weak ass with one thought 3 SEC wins in three years. That's all you need to know.
