I ask honestly... how old are you?

Great perspective, man. This was always going to be a wait-and-see season. Hooker exceeded expectations, as did the O-Line, the WRs, and well, damn the whole offense exceeded expectations.

I believe we can still build off of this season (especially all of momentum from the LSU and Alabama wins) and recruit dynamite defensive players. But we need a new DC and DB’s coach.
Who knows if a proven DC really wanted to come here to begin with.

I am old enough to have seen a National Championship and understand it. The defense tonight was/is AS BAD AS Dooley’s years.

Are you old enough to remember Johnny Majors singlehandedly taking us out of the 1st ever SEC championship game by losing to 1st year Sec schools Arkansas and South Carolina? That was rough. I was at the Arkansas game in Neyland that year

I've been a fan for 35 years and that was, bar none, the worst one game defensive performance by a Vols team I've ever seen. 9 TDs in 10 possessions to a team who has been terrible, terrible, on offense the entire year. It was unconscionably bad.

There have been some bad defenses, probably worse ones overall, but that was all-time bad for a one game deal.

43. First game I remember was ‘86 Sugar Bowl. First game I really watched was Peach Bowl after ‘87 season. Fell in love with it during the ‘89 Auburn win. Old enough to have perspective as far as football goes…..and in life. This is no longer worth the emotional involvement.

37. I had Tennessee at 7-5 before the season started. I was a believe it when I see it. I knew going into the season the defense was bad, just didn’t think it was going to be this bad.

And yet we beat your 7-5 prediction!! The terrible D only lost 2 games so far!!

I'm just curious how much historical perspective some of you people have because what I'm seeing posted here tonight is lunacy. Grow up.
WHY are you pointing your frustration at fans?
Sounds like we're not the only ones that need to grow up.

There's literally no excuse for what that defense did (or didn't do) today.

We had the playoffs in sight. One of only a handful of teams out of 128.
And we gave up 63 points....63 points.....63 points to SOUTH CAROLINA with playoffs on the line.

You're absolutely nuts if you can't see the pure losing culture on that performance.

And you decide to take out on the FANS??! gtfo...

We are comparing close losses to a brutal beatdown? There was no perspective in this post.
Memphis in 96 was no where close to the level of usc, and TN had Peyton Manning and one of the best teams of the recent Vol era. They were still called Memphis State then. Losing to Memphis in 96 was worse than tonight. It would be similar to losing to a Western KY or something similar this year.

Memphis was a bad team but to compare the two is ridiculous. We just gave up 63 points to a team barely over .500. This also knocked us out of the CFP where we had a chance for a national championship.

30. Not really old enough to remember ‘98. All I got is the end of the Fulmer years and all that follows that. While I wasn’t expecting to have this good of a season, this still hurts more than any of it.

I’m 55 and refuse to call chicken $hit chicken salad. This team embarrassed themselves tonight. Are we supposed to feel good about that?

I like how you act like this has came out of nowhere. It's been a problem for 2 years but was understandable last year because of being the first year and depth. This year it got wrote off because "We're undefeated and people still find something to complain about". Well now we're not and we got embarrassed by a mediocre team

41, and too old to be getting as mad as I was tonight for 3 and a half quarters. Don't know why I care so much as I do. Tonight was similar to the ole miss game last year. It triggers my thought process that I need to find something else to do on Saturdays.

Correct, but nothing was on the line but respect. Florida had already beaten us, and they were headed towards the SEC and National championship. We were Citrus bound no matter what 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yep, I remember. Also remember losing to Rutgers and UVA in the same year with Johnny. Those first few years were tough. With that said, this one hurts because of what was on the line. Just hope we can rebound next week, that Hooker is okay and that these Banks rumors aren’t true.

I hear you. I've had to adjust myself. These kids... are kids. We have been blessed by a great season and suddenly another team came in more ready. It's football. But this program is better than it was for years...

54 (Gen Xer) and started going to games when I was six years old. I’ve seen A LOT. Yeah, I get pi$$ed when stuff like this happens, but I get over it pretty quick. Coach needs to take a long look at the defensive staff, have some discussions with those coaches and be open to making some changes. The secondary just isn’t good by any standard and the lack of blitz packages/pass rush on a QB that is lighting you up is inexcusable. This is what a forum is for though, to vent. Let people vent how they want to. It’s a passionate and emotional sport.

Memphis was a bad loss, but we weren't dominated by them in 1996. We simply kept screwing up and had a bad call on a KO become the difference. Tonight was an ass whipping. An ass whipping by a team which had shown nothing all year and scored a TD on almost every possession with ease.

Tonight was 2001 LSU bad and that's not an exaggeration. We had the playoffs in hand, hardest part of our schedule finished, and then this, an utter humiliation in every way on prime time national TV. This one feels more damaging than the '96 game. We had arrived already in '96 and knew more opportunity was coming. This one? This one feels like a potential killer. We'll see next week.
