FINAL STRAW!!! When does the mediocrity go away? Its time to pull the plug on Cuonzo and staff. He wasn't the right hire from the very beginning and he certainly isn't getting anything positive done. Its time to give him the boot and go spend the right money and get the right coach for the job. The mediocre BS standard has got to stop.

Obvisiously Martin isn't the right fit for Tennessee. I like him as a person but not as a coach. I agree though, it's time for a change.

Losing by 9 to the #3 team in the country is the last straw???

There are plenty of games to point to that many would support as your "last straw" theory. Last night wasn't one of them.

While I don't disagree that it may be in the best interest of the program to go in a different direction, it's laughable to use a competitive loss (one that was a lot closer than the final score indicated) to a likely number 1 seed (and possibly the best team in the country) as an indicator of mediocrity.

Tennessee simply doesn't have the squad to outplay Florida for 60 minutes...but they easily played like a top 20 team last night. Top 20 is not mediocre.

Again, I'm not against going a different direction, but don't use last night's loss as a tipping point; that's just dumb.

I think the last straw could come on Saturday. If they lose to Mizzou then it's gonna be near impossible RPI wise to get in the big dance. That's gonna be a tough win, but they've put themselves in that position by losing some games they should have won.

Goodness!!!!

I am not saying that we should settle on being mediorce as a mens basketball program, however; from past experience, no one wants the job here.

We fire Martin, then go through a lengthy interview process for fove or six weeks. Hart has a list of ten candidates and none of them want the job. Hell, most of them won't even accept an invitation to interview for the job.

Then of the list of ten candidates, we end up hiring # 11. Our "B" list of candidates.

Meanwhile, all of the recruits grow weary of the process and they decommitt and sign elsewhere.

Now, (1) we end up with a coach that is equal to/ of less than Coach Martin. (2) we pay Martin a buy out (3) We lose our recruiting class for this year.

Seems like a losing venture to me!!!!!

The alternative is to keep Martin, continue to under achieve but sign the current recruiting class.

Neither is an ideal option.

Agree.

However knowing this team here's what I predict...come out and kill Missouri. Take care of the cupcakes the follow, and then lose the season finale at home to Missouri to piss everyone off lol.

i agree with you but i think a point he is trying to make is martin screwed up again. yes maymon was the one giving the ball up 8 times in turnovers so why didnt he insert maybe aj davis or was the 2 points maymon scored that important to martin. coach does not know how to sub. bottom line he is awful coach

Seems like there never is a good time to say goodbye but the the day eventually comes when it isn't so hard.

I don't see any way out of this mess. I don't think we can hire a coach much better than Cuonzo... and we have Maymon, Stokes, and McRae leaving... NO BENCH WHATSOEVER... our recruiting class is okay i guess... our starting lineup will be thompson, richardson, hubbs, davis, and pops??? not a recipe for success.

I can't see Tennessee going back to the tourney for a long while

That may be another argument to go back after Pearl. If things are going to be that bleak, anyone they bring in other than some big name that we all know they likely won't get (or convince to come here), then at that point honestly I think Pearl is the only one they could name that people would overlook the fact we may really suck next year even with him.

What would be interesting to see if Pearl is brought back, if he doesn't give the program a boost and say in 4-5 years we're a middle of the pack program like now, how well he'll be cherished then.

$$$ talks. Not sure if he would stay long-term, but offer a boatload to Richard Pitino and he would don Big Orange. Plunder an assistant to one of the big names. Better coach does not necessarily mean bigger name. When hired, how many on Volnation knew the name Bruce Pearl?

I think Hart hit it out of the park with Butch Jones. I am confident that if Cuonzo is to be replaced, Hitman Hart will find the right man for the job.

Who is the last basketball coach we offered a boatload of money to? I'll hang up and listen.

None that I am aware of. But I am confident that if Dave Hart believes spending big money on an established name is the best route, money won't be a hindrance.

I think he will look to go with a young guy/diamond-in-the-rough/future big namer, but if an established name is available for the right price, he will pay it.

I'm taking the "believe it when I see it" approach on spending substantial money on a basketball coach. We didn't do it three years ago. We didn't do it six years before that. We didn't do it four years before that. We didn't do it four years before that. We didn't do it three years before that. We didn't do it five years before that.

See the pattern? We have routinely taken the "diamond in the rough" or retread approach to hiring basketball coaches going as far back as Mears.

I hope Hart opens the checkbook, but I'm not holding my breath.

$$ does not talk! Do you recall all of the candidates we reached out to when Pearl was fired? None of them were interested!!!!!

If you are a "Good" Up & Coming coach, you don't want to go Tennessee to have your career de railed.

If you are a proven "Good " Coach, then you will be selective in which program you choose to coach. which will not be at Tennessee.

Don't you think that we offered $$$ to coaches the last time we had an opening for a head coaching position????
