The only one's overall that could come close to him would be Lombardi, Bear Bryant, and maybe Pat Summitt.

If you would have read a few posts above yours, you never would have opened your mouth. Dickens821 is absolutely correct about Sam Gilbert. Just google his name and watch all the garbage appear before your eyes. All the people, like yourself, that want to declare him the greatest ever don't have a clue. It wasn't any coincidence that once Lew Alcinder was on campus, Gilbert entered the picture and the rest is history.

Also, the other factor working in Wooden's favor back then was up until 1975, only Conference champions were allowed into the tournament. During his NCAA run with Gilbert buying him the best players, he had more talent stockpiled at the end of his bench then the other PAC 8 schools started a game with. It wasn't any coincidence that Wooden chose to retire the same time the NCAA expanded the field to allow at large teams in.
He knew his monopoly had come to an end. He also coached for something like 16 years and never won squat until Lew Alcinder and Gilbert came on the scene.

People like you don't know what an insult it is to include his name in the same sentence with Pat Summitt.
Read up on your history.

Den, they are to young and to stupid to realize Pat's accomplishments. When you have more wins, it does'nt matter about the past, that's gone. The truth is that the floor at TBA is named Summit. the school is over a 100+ years old. You don't get your court named after some no name. She has passed all of them in the win slot last time I looked. I don't care what sport it is. This is a mute point. Why even argue with them.:lolabove:

Winning 1,000 games in the women's game would be about equivalent to winning 500 for the men... give or take a hundred. Pat Summitt is a great coach - but let's be realistic... women's bball is just now starting to get competitive and the recruiting is getting stiffing and there's a bit more parody. That's why the LV's were not ranked in the top 10 for the first time in forever this year.

Lady Vol Homers are worse than Big Ten Football fans...

Pat is a good coach for the sport she coaches in. She has accomplished alot, more than any other Women's basketball coach.
Having her name on a floor is irrelevant in this discussion. I can spray paint my name, or your name, on a floor. Means nothing.
She is a legend among Women's Basketball coaches. However, she should not be compared to coaches who coached professional athletes. Athletes who were the pinnacle of their respective sport.

I don't see anyone comparing Maryville High School and its Coach to Lombardi and the Packers????? Based on your argument, they should be...
That's my opinion on the matter.

Dont she have some women players that went pro in the wnba . I see your point , but Pat Summit is a great BB mind and motivator imo . Fyi I cant stand womens BB.
