I don't know what it is, but I don't have a good feeling about the game saturday. i don't know if it's because we're coming off a near-loss to air force or what, but we're missing our best defensive lineman and a dang good corner. the running game, although decent, hasn't fully stepped up yet. we can't expect ainge to go 24-29 for 300+ yards and 3 tds every game.

i think tennessee still has a good chance to pull one out just because we're playing at home though.

thoughts?
The AF game surprised me as I had picked UT to win by a landslide. I didn't realize UT had some injuries at the time.

This week the UT / Gators will probably be a close game as well. Still, i'm not convinced Urban Meyer is a great coach. I see him sitting in the locker room crying with his team (again) after a loss (this time to to UT). :cray:

We know Fulmer and his staff are tough, but is Meyer tough enough to coach in the SEC? Not trying to be rude, mind you, but I don't think he is (even if he beats my Bama team this year). :whistling: He might win the occasional mid-level games, but can he win the truly big ones? I don't think so.

UT still has far too much talent and mental toughness to lose this one imo. UT wins this week.

My prediction of the margin is based on two things. The overconfidence being shown by UF and the teamsmanship of the Vol players. They are tight and when it comes to big games that means alot. UF sounds a whole lot more like a bunch of individuals... and Meyer strikes me as a Prima Donna who is totally impressed with himself.

Other than a preseason quote about a desire to start "getting in their kitchen" which applied to all road teams, and a more specific one about wanting to get a shutout against UT (you want your D to feel that way, just not publicly say so), I don't see a whole lot of overconfidence by UF.

In my opinion, your assessment about UF being a bunch of individuals is as far off base as you could be. Meyer is so much about "team" that a player who exhibits a "me first" attitude will be riding the pine, no matter how good he is.

Meyer is confident, slightly arrogant. UF had another VERY successful coach who was similar, except a lot more arrogant. And Meyer certainly tempers his portrayal of confidence with respect for the other team.

If you haven't noticed, there's been an incredible lack of smack this week from players and coaches on both sides of the ball.

I do believe that UT is playing more as a team united, instead of as a team divided as they did last year. UF was on that track last year and it continues.

It should make for a great game, and likely a close one.

I'll hold off on my final prediction until tomorrow.

You are being a pansy. I definately dont want u cheering for us if you arent confident. We only want people to think we are going to win to cheer for us.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I guess nobody would cheer for Vanderbilt and Kentucky if that was the case. If someone doesn't think we are going to win, that is fine. I guarantee he will still be screaming his head off as much as any of us. Just because he doesn't think we are going to win doesn't make him a pansy.

You ever see the South Park episode that goes, "If you don't like it you can just geeeeeit out!" That is what you sound like.

With that said, I predict UT by a field goal.

Tee Martin came to the Birmingham Big Orange Club last night, and he predicted a 10 point victory. Heard it with my own ears.

GO VOLS!!!!

I wouldn't think you would. It is implicit in the way Meyer, Leak, et al are talking about the game.

I sensed it in Tedford and was right. I sense it in Meyer and I guess we'll see.

Raines specified UT as a shut out victim... I'm not sure you need much more than that.

Well, to my knowledge UF doesn't have a Raines...but you do. If your guy is specifying "UT as a shut out victim", you've got problems. :whistling:

I'll save you the trouble. It was Marcus Thomas at UF who said that. Here's his statement in context:

"That's all we're aiming for right now," Thomas said. "I feel like we can. We can shut them out. We can shut out any team if we play to our expectations."

That's the mindset every D coordinator wants his players to have, but he doesn't want them to be vocal (to the press) about it.

As far as Meyer goes, everything that I've seen indicates a high level of respect for the Vols:

In preparing to face talented wide receivers, doing extra tacking drills usually isn't a prominent part of the practice plan for cornerbacks. But then Tennessee's wide receivers are more than just fast and talented.

They're also big and strong, UF coach Urban Meyer said.

"A lot of those big plays against Cal (in UT's opening victory) were 6-yard throws where the corners fell off of them because they're big, strong, fast players," Meyer said. "We've been working on tackling. We had extra repetitions with our cornerbacks tackling today. I think their biggest asset is they are big, strong, physical receivers that you like. And they have great speed on top of that."

Tennessee's most dangerous offensive weapon has been wide receiver Robert Meachem.

"He is one of the best receivers in the SEC," Meyer said.

UF's defensive front seven also will be facing a tough test against Tennessee's physical running game, Meyer said.

"Southern Miss and Central Florida don't recruit the players Tennessee has," Meyer said. "It's a major step up...

Doesn't sound like overconfidence to me. But then again, to some folks anyone who doesn't say "I believe that the Vols are better than my own team" is overconfident. Go figure.

Sorry. The quote I was thinking of was attributed to Joiner.

He said that more shut outs were coming... Then, asked specifically about the Vols, he said "yes".
