So I'll start a thread, out of curiosity, how many of you would have traded our late season streak and play in game for Bruce Pearl? Don't merge this, and I know I'll get destroyed for this, but let's see. Honest answers.

Honest answer; I'm not telling you if has to do with Pearl. I'm over it.

That's a pretty silly two option question. You're implying that there was even a chance, or that all of the cards were on the table.

Since we're making things interesting, add the option "win the 1 billion dollar bracket"

Why don't you ask Jeronne Maymon who rehabbed his knee for thousands of hours for a chance to make a run and make a long lasting impact at Tennessee?

I'm sure he doesn't care at all about the tournament so he could have Bruce Pearl.

People don't care dude. Do you not get that?

No, they honestly think Hart blew this. He didn't blow it, Pearl was never on the table. And we don't even know if Pearl wanted to come back. For all the "insider info" that was posted as fact, there was info posted that Pearl himself didn't want to come back and that was dismissed. For all we know that was true.

Not saying he was an option. Its a simple question. I'm all Vol regardless who our coach is. Due to the high volume of posts about Bruce, our AD, and others listed today I wanted to see just how split our fan base is. It seemed like Dooleys final days at times, people hoping we would lose and such. I support Tennessee, always. So don't call me out.

I could probably do that for you. How's this question work

Poll: Do you care more about an ex-coach than you do about showing respect to the guys who have busted their humps for UT the past few years?

or perhaps

Poll: Are you so miserable that you actively cheer for your team to lose?

please note that all responses will be public

I just think we are poorly coached. I think Coach Martin does a good job to a point - but his assistants seem weak, recruiting has been less than spectacular, substitutions, time outs, in bound plays are poorly managed, and I fear starting next year we will be on a downward spiral.

I think now that Coach Pearl has gone to Auburn - Coach Martin and staff will be better judged on their merits. I just don't see a top tier program emerging but we will see how we look next year.

I am thus far not very impressed but am willing to withhold judgment until I see what rolls out next season.

I agree with that totally. I'm asking the fans Z. How split is this fanbase really? Was basically the point of this thread.

Too easy of a question.

Yes I would trade a meaningless run late in the season vs the worst teams in the season for a chance to hire a coach that is bearable to watch and can actually coach.

Edit…. and while yes, that would suck for the guys on the team because it would mean that they wouldn't have made the play-in game of the NCAA's this year, it's not like they didn't have a hand in the early/mid season losses themselves. Plus, ever heard of collateral damage? This team would have missed out on a little so that the teams of the future would prosper. Plus I would argue that the underclassmen would be better off because they would likely see much more success in the future had they been coached by Pearl as opposed to Conzo.

I've never once cheered against Tennessee. Not with Dooley, or Martin. I asked THIS board, who today seems to be mostly in meltdown mode, and a few calm sensible voices.

Amen. Screw all you guys that wanted to tank just so you could satisfy a pipe dream rehire.

Agree. The players have showed their commitment by their hard work and run to the tourney. It's the fans commitment that seem split, in half, or even worse.

If I'm reading op correctly, he doesn't say anything about 'tanking.'

He asks if we would trade our late season run and play-in game for Bruce Pearl.

If you care anything about the long-term success of this program (and aren't here just to crow about how 'Pearl was never in play here, blah, blah, blah'), then you have to admit that today was a loss for Tennessee.

Keep spinning it however you want, but the reality is our b-ball future just got a lot darker.

Agreed. it will take a single digit win year for te Conzoites to realize this.

.

I'm glad Jeronne Maymon and Jordan McRae didn't think that when Bruce was fired instead of CHOOSING THE SCHOOL over some coach who broke the rules, lied, was caught, and rightly fired. I'm glad they didn't just say "Man, it's not looking good for the program, I'm bailing to go somewhere easier" or "Man, UT basketball is nothing without Pearl, I'm out of here." I'm glad they were men and stayed through the thick and thin and will be rewarded for their hard work.

Great essay.

Regardless...a dark day for UT b-ball.

“@Ben_Fred: Maymon: "We ain't got no comments on the Auburn situation. We're here to talk about Tennessee." Jordan: "What Jeronne said."”
