With their schedule they absolutely don’t deserve to be in at 11-1. If you punished FSU for going undefeated and winning their conference, then IU should be out at 11-1.

What do you see when you look at their schedule and results that is inconsistent with them being an elite team? I mean if Bama played their schedule what would they do? It’s not just that they are squeaking by an easy schedule, relatively speaking…they have been dominant

We need Ohio State to boat race Indiana.

The 12 team playoff, like politics, is making for strange bedfellows. Until this year I would never ever want OSU to even win a game, much less boat race anybody.

Apples and oranges…one was a 4 team playoff, this is 12 teams…if a 4 team playoff they wouldn’t and shouldn’t be in and if we had a 12 team playoff last yr they’d have been in so I don’t see your argument

FSU was left out for one reason - because they lost arguably the best player in the country and were a totally different team without him. Had nothing to do with their schedule or conference.

It’s just the bias for conference champs that really sucks. Ex: 9-3 reg season big 12 but win conf cg is not better than a 10-2 reg season sec team. That’s bogus.

There are some teams that will make it in that are not championship worthy, though I guess this maybe contradicts the reasoning you gave and wouldn’t help our chances in the end if it were different.

I was originally in favor of a 6 team playoff with 2 play in games for seeds 3-6. That solves the issue that was the whole reason for change from bcs to playoff system. 6 teams is more than enough to capture the rightful national champ. But more teams in playoffs equals more money so that’s the direction weve been headed for a while.

They didn’t make the CFP last season because they sucked w/o their quarterback versus 2 less than mediocre teams.

Not sure how I feel about the auto bid system for conference champs. I get why they're doing it to help the lower conferences but you can have two 10-2 SEC teams that would otherwise make the CFP, but because they're playing the extra game for the conference champ, the one that winds up at 10-3 likely misses the CFP.

It never needs to go past 16. In reality there aren’t 32 teams worthy and the regular season has to mean something. Right now it’s a good thing, at 16 it’s still probably a good thing. And I am one of the old schoolers your talking about. Many of us old schoolers know more about football than some of you diaper boys do. To many teams in waters down things and makes regular season mean nothing. I guess your way everybody gets a participation trophy that is the young new school soft way of things. Now you know how it feels to be lumped into a particular category. Show some respect. GBO

NFL has had playoffs since it started. It didn't "water" down the regular season. They get higher rankings than CFB.

I agree about 16.

I get what you're saying but I'd argue the bowl system has a been a "participation trophy" mindset for like 30 years once they started adding so many and every 6-6 team gets one. I'm old enough to remember when making a bowl game was actually somewhat difficult. I remember when 7-4 (when we had 11 regular season games) might not be good enough to make a bowl game.

The thing I think will suffer is conference championships. The super conferences have made them kind of a mess for the SEC and Big 10 especially I don't think you can punish the loser for losing an extra game so you're basically playing for seeding.

I agree on the bowl games, corporate makes money on them even with empty seats somehow. But it has watered down the bowl system to the point that many players don’t even want to play in the lesser bowls. I agree we shouldn’t be having 5 win teams playing in bowl games. It’s silly stupid, I am like you I remember when you needed 7 wins to get to a bowl. I think they should go back to that but they never will.By expanding playoffs to more than 16 you run the risk of watering down the regular season. Somebody made the claim about NFL but the nfl doesn’t have 118 teams in division 1. College football is the hottest sport out there. I bet if you took a poll among all the fans they wouldn’t want it expanded any further than 16 either. Corporate greed for money often ruins sure fire good things. But I don’t think we will see it expanded over 16 for the foreseeable future. Change happens but changing things every time you turn around can backfire.

It would be fun if there was a 32 team bracket to include all conference champions from FBS (10) and FCS (13). The committee could then decide on who else gets in...9 remaining teams could consist of best among independents and best (highest-ranked) conference runner-ups. Something like that.

At the start of the season, I think most thought that 10-2 would be a near lock to get in and the fact that we find ourselves at risk even at 10-2 to be a surprise.

A 12 team playoff would have worked better with conferences P5 like last year. There are so many teams in a conference you could get lucky & play a full schedule of teams with a losing or just barely bowl eligible. Like Indiana they played their schedule can’t blame them but I don’t think they’re even a Top 20 team. With these big conferences they’ll have to expand to 16 and it may be expedited to next year. This committee has been a Fubar.
