“[Dave Hart and I] talked very frankly about it,” Dooley said. “He told me he had not made a decision if we go 6-6, despite what all the reports are. Either the sources are wrong or Dave wasn’t being forthright with me and I have no reason to think Dave is not being forthright with me. He is an honest man, he has always been honest with me and I have appreciated how he has handled everything about this. I really have.”

So apparently Hart and Dooley had a frank discussion about his future, and Hart told him that he hasnt made a decision "if we go 6-6". So if we have great game against Vandy and Kentucky, go to a bowl, then the decision process moves to after the bowl before a decision is made? That tells me that #1, DD knows another loss and its over, and #2 keep winning and we will see. If in fact, as some here have suggested, that the decision has already been made, why wouldn't he just be honest and tell him? It all looks bad now, we have reports from sources for weeks now saying it's a done deal, media reporting that DD has been fired, now DD saying he has talked to the AD and has been assured that no decision has been made...IMO makes Hart look dishonest and shady, and if it is true that a decision hasn't been made, makes me wonder what Hart is waiting on and if he really feels like DD deserves another season. What am i missing? Is something wrong at this point telling DD that we will be parting ways after the season so that we can begin moving forward with a "search"? OR, is it true that a decision hasnt been made yet and that DD may very well be the HFCATUTK next season.

Dave Hart once said that we need a large bank account like alot of other top programs in the country have. Of course, he referenced Alabama as having 11,000,000 in the bank.
Well, one way to get money in the bank is to go to a bowl game. It would amount to less than $500,000 because we are likely going to go 6 - 6, but it is money in the bank, none the less.
If it is announced that Dooley is fired, then how will the team react? Will they pull together and win the last two games and go to a bowl game? Or will they fall apart like the 2008 team did against Wyoming?
If the team falls apart and we don't get to a bowl game, then that is money lost....

Don't think the team is focused with Dooley there. Too much outside pressure. If he's waiting there's something else in play.

Of course they aren't focused...But Hart doesn't know that or he would've already fired his arse....If he played it right he could have the new coach in place by the bowl game and get the team excited and really give a boost to the recruiting.....But no....He's not going to do that as You can see :banghead2:

For me the bold part indicates the decision is whether to allow him to coach the bowl game or not.

As in:

CDD: "Dave, I realize I'm done after the season, but if we get these last 2 games will I be able to coach the bowl game?"
ADDH: "Frankly, I haven't decided that yet, let's see how the games go and decide if you leave before December or stick around until the end of the year."

Dooley may not be the greatest coach, but any coach would have struggled coming into the situation after Kiffin.

Realistically, DD came into the situation following the mess Fulmer left. Kiff only hung his hat on the rack for a short year, the troubles in the FB program date to the Fulmer regime.

Hart wants the team focused on making the lowest tier bowl possible for the extra money...He doesn't want to distract the team from that goal...Of course after Kentucky win or lose Dooley will be cut loose but at least they will be in the bowl if they win out...It bugs me I have to put "IF" after saying they play Vandy and UK.....Damn how the mighty have fallen....Anybody feel like defending Dooley right now?..lol

I think this is it; if the goal is to salvage the season in any way and make a bowl game, then I think as long as they are eligible, you hold off on the announcement. I think if Dooley was canned yesterday, then it would almost guarantee UT loses Saturday.

They very well may lose Saturday anyway, and I think if they do, then the announcement will come the following Monday because at that point, there's really nothing left to play for.

I think he's gone regardless, and even if we beat Vandy and UK, I'm expecting an announcement after the UK game and the only question will be will Dooley coach the bowl game or not. IF Hart is actually considering keeping Dooley if we win out and win the bowl game, then he might want to start updating his resume as well, because the fan outrage will be sky high.

I guess I don't understand the position espoused by some that Hart is just trying to maintain the status quo in hopes that UT makes a bowl. I'm pretty sure UT barely broke even at the Music City bowl 3yrs ago and the Liberty Bowl or BBVA Compass Bowl would probably be money losers. How many UT fans are going to purchase tickets and drive to Birmingham to watch a 6-6 team play a crappy CUSA, BigE, or SunBelt type team? The odds are pretty strong that Dooley won't even be the coach at that point? Do you honestly think Bray, Hunter, or Patterson's heart will be in that game? I bet all three of them have agents by Christmas. Who could blame them... :ermm:

"I can give compelling arguements why I should" he said regarding whether he should remain at UT. "It's not going to be your decision, it's not going to be a bunch of these sources' decisions, it is Dave and the chancellor. It is their decision."

-from today's Daily Beacon article

One, I would love to hear his compelling arguements to why he should continue to be coach and two, it scares me to think that Jimmy Cheek is in on the decision making.

A ("the") compelling reason for a push for a bowl game is the extended practice period available. The added practice time shows up in the spring and again in the fall.

We got to get a big name Coach, or in 2 or 3 years the same old sht will start again we got to pay some big time money to get the right coach for us.

I'm going to burn more than a mattress if he is the coach next year.

Getting to a Bowl is crucial in recouping loss money in buy outs and ticket sales down the stretch. At the end of the day, yes it's a sport, but it's about making money also.

I hope this is not shaping up to Dooley staying another year if we go 6-6. If Dooley stays I lose all hope for the Vols with his subpar recruiting/coaching ability. Following the Vols for over 40 years and we are next to last in the SEC again for the 3rd year doesn't seem like the University really cares anymore. I'm still hoping for a new HC that can ralley the team as well as the fan base and drastically improve recruiting....time will tell.....
The entire State of Tennessee needs to have something to cheer about once again as we've been down for such a very long time. It's sad that Vanderbilt has replaced UT as the best team in the State, both in coaching and recruiting.

Yeah, we weren't the favorite in more games because Vegas knows Dooley is a horrible coach too. Such a dumb argument. Being favored isn't a sign of who has the most talent or who inherited a tough situation. It has to do with whether gambling guys think you can win. And having a coach who is a known loser figures in to that.

That is not how gambling works, the bookies could care less who is going to win the game. They make a line based on what they think will make about as close to equal amount of bettors on each side of the line so they collect the 10%.

That's why lines move up and down!!! You don't think a team get's better or worst in couple of days!!!
ps: i'm agreeing with you, just added on!!!

My only thought to this is that Dave Hart is getting his "cards" together without showing his hand. If he were to come out and say CDD was finished and name his people of interest, then KY ARK and Auburn would get right into that hunt for "our guy".

I'm not happy with the situation and want CDD gone, but crap rolls down hill and Hart will save his job before dooleys.

There in giving us a new coach
