I Have a Hot Take

Nico is making faster decisions and the offense is starting to look much more like it did in 2022. We are completing over the middle and deep out throws now and it's happening at a faster rate than the defense can adjust to. If only we had 3 or 4 more games this year.

I've always wondered if having a WR1 or WR2 off the field forces a QB to read more as its takes away his bias towards those players. So long as you have the horses to run and they know the scheme you would expect a wider pass distribution. Let's be honest, Vandy's DBs are not great but the WRs looked a lot better yesterday and we got it done (eventually).

Hope this is the WR room turning the corner!
Nico also had alot of time to throw the ball.

Ok, he's technically a RS FR but that shouldn't be used an any excuse for his play moving forward.
I know, just hate when people say that. Pet peeve. He has definitely taken way too many snaps by now to have that used as an excuse. Really hoping the game has slowed down completely for him by now.

Really wonder what happened on that ball. It was way off.
I got a feeling it may be in his head now so he may not trust himself to make that throw. Or he could be aiming instead of throwing the receiver open, but once he figures it out we will take off.

My thinking is that Nico was afraid to over throw on another deep pass and took too much off resulting in a woefully underthrown pass. The rest of his throws were spot on for the most part. Sure would be nice to have a few of those deeper throws on target though.

No drops, can’t cover him, ball hawk, speed, high point,…….he can be the best receiver we have and not play right now.
Needs more work to be considered the best over guys like Thornton and McCoy. I agree he can be the best but that'll probably manifest in his seasons to come.

Even though it was “short” it was still a 51 yard throw.
Nico can definitely throw it further than that but he underestimated how deep the DB was

Our WR core looks better when #5 and #3 aren't on the field.

Brazzell
MM
Dont'e

...the superior core.
I want to agree. Obviously yesterdays performance supports that.

But I also know what White and Bru can do individually. They need to keep Brus route tree short and medium, and they need to also get him involved in hand in the slot position.

So he needs to rotate with White.

It should be Thornton and Matthew’s out wide with Bru at slot. Or play White out wide. But Bru needs to be closer to the QB

First off, we rotate to keep them fresh legs and wear out the CBs.

Second, Bru and Squirrel are great possession receivers. Good hands. They also don't make as mental mistakes like running the wrong routes.

Third, Matthews will continue to get better as he learns the routes and timing and shedding blocks etc.

Fourth, Donte is our best receiver this year, he needs to get healthy as does Squirrel and Bru.

Fifth, I hope we get another year to really unleash Brazzell II in this system.

2025: Brazzell II, Matthews, Squirrel, Nimrod, Webb...thats a pretty darn good WR corp, and we can add a few top notch recruits to that list as well.
