I Have a Hot Take

Our WR core looks better when #5 and #3 aren't on the field.

...the superior core.
Our whole offense looks better when we play OOC teams or Vandy.

They play 5 yards off the receiver at the line and never touch them the entire route.

I saw Vandy's DLine getting zero pressure on Nico. He had time to check down his receivers and find the open man. I think we have had players open, but Nico had no time to scan the entire field.
Vandy played a heavier box on more snaps and Tennessee made them pay down the field. Any UT WR who could get inside the CB was going to be open deep. That scheme favors speed. But teams that play UT with more safety help ask for a different skill set from the WRs.

Even though it was “short” it was still a 51 yard throw.
Nico can definitely throw it further than that but he underestimated how deep the DB was
It was thrown to the middle of the field too much as well though. I think that one got away from him but I couldn’t see good. He has had some over and under throws but that one was just completely off.

We were a lot less predictable as well. Some of the play action was phenomenal too. Nico had a play action to Bishop that I swear he handed off until the receiver caught the ball in the endzone.

IRRC he was looking straight to keep the safety honest, but then we he turned left he just didn’t get his body behind it.
Sometimes you sacrifice power for quickness and yeah, that throw was off

They only rushed 3 most of the night and saying "rushed" is a bit misleading. Nico will not see that again this year. He better learn to read quickly and get the ball out much quicker or he'll be toast. Candy was pathetic

The play calling was a lot more aggressive....Not as many up the middle runs for a yard or two, but instead the mid range pass patterns were utilized...These lead to the 86 yard touchdown....If coach will stay with an offensive game plan, this team could be legendary.

Play calling wasn't that much different. Execution was much better

Play calling has been fine all year

Bru's blocking is something very important that we dont see when watching the game on TV.

Nico is making faster decisions and the offense is starting to look much more like it did in 2022. We are completing over the middle and deep out throws now and it's happening at a faster rate than the defense can adjust to. If only we had 3 or 4 more games this year.
We do. 😎

LOL. Nico had all day to throw so it's no wonder they looked great. Vandy was selling out to stop the run and begging Nico to beat them and that he did. I guess you missed the route where Squirrel was wide open and nobody was within 15 yards of him. Unfortunately that was one of the few times Vandy got pressure and Nico had to scramble.

My hot take is, Nico isn't a RS freshman anymore. He is now a veteran QB so, that excuse needs to die.
Well, technically he is still a redshirt freshman. He will be until the start of next year. I am confused why you made this statement after one of his best performances of the year? I mean he went 18/26 with 256 yards passing. He did have the one very weird underthrow that resulting in an interception. He did however have 4 extremely good throws resulting in TDs. What exactly are you complaining about?

didn't miss a single route.

me saying one wr core is better than the one we primarily use is being interpreted in ways YOU want to interpret it. even we Squirrel is open he unnecessarily leaves his feet or does something else to make the catch more difficult than it has to be. also, why are we using the offensive line being good as a slight?

LOL.

I'll take JH's opinion over yours and pretty sure he's a better judge of talent than you are.

This. A "half second longer" to look and throw makes such a huge difference, the OLs and DLs are very often underrated when looking at the strength of teams. Imagine playing Fortnite (first person shooter video game for those unaware) if everyone else was given a half-second head start to raise and point their weapon before both of you started shooting.

Complaining about the redshirt freshman argument being used as an excuse for a poor performance.

Yes, he played well Saturday but, it was Vandy, not pressure much all game. We shall how he performs in the playoffs.
