I have a question for some of the Political forum regulars....

My point was that it begins with an acceptance of Christ as Lord of one's life. Repentance and baptism without that are fairly meaningless, unless that repentance leads to a recognition for the need for Christ's atonement and that baptism follows the acceptance of Christ as a sign of obedience to Him.

Believe me, i was totally into it back then. Totally. I find that many tend to disbelieve that because it doesn't fit their script, but I definitely was as much as I am NOT into now. I've never been a lukewarm kind of guy.

Pretty much, once I got older and was going to church to run the sound system I brought up to the mens fellowship that the precious King James Bible was a third translation from the original English Bible.

That was a hit.......

:eek:k:

More like the 7th or 8th I believe but yeah... many who call themselves Independent Baptist try to be more conservative than God... also known as Phariseeism.

Kind of circular logic. I thought I was ready. My parents and preacher thought I was. Also, you just finished telling me about how I had to have milk before meat, how I had to have the holy spirit guide me and teach me and couldn't just come to true understand on my own... It's kind of having it both ways. I wasn't ready or serious, but it doesn't matter how serious or ready I was because it takes the holy spirit...?

You see what I am saying?

No I don't see the circular logic, you over looked the parable of the sower, that explains it.

I am a Baptist by choice, a Christian by the Grace of God.

Liked minded believers, oh and its southern.

I grew up Pentecostal and now go to an SBC church....not really into denominations. Frankly I've had to really 'shop' to find a church that is not legalistic and dares to actually preach, teach, and live the Bible.

Great approach.

The version they used was a third edition.... I checked before I opened my mouth.

:hi:

FTR, I've known KJV Only folks who would argue over whether you should use the 1762 update or 1769 update... then in the same breath deny the KJV had ever been changed.

This thread has really turned into somethin' cool. Sjt and T-town (Don't worry SJ, I'm not lumping you into the same category with this cat), I'll get back to you folks later tonight. I just have some business to take care of.

But before I go, I'm pretty sure the fire with me was ignited over my definition of "the church." If I ever attempted to define Christianity, it was probably a mistake. The only disputed definition surrounding my arguments was that of "the church."

T-town: my 'intellegence' has been insulted, lolz.

Can someone explain to me the logic or argument for KJV only?

As a pastor, I use the KJV, but only because I understand its language. Now I how I got there, I started with a American Standard. I often use other editions at times when studying.

I also know those KJV only people, so we usually have some good conversations about it. The only reason has to be how they were taught and alot of how mom, dad, and grandparents taught.

Third edition of the KJV or the Bible in English?

The Bishops, Wycliffe, Geneva, Great, and a few others preceded the KJV in English.

Really, you are going technical.....

You must be a lot of fun at parties........

"That guy"

:eek:k:

Being one who is 'plugged into' ministry I have heard many of the arguments but just wanted to hear what some here have heard. I have a variety myself and tend to go back to the Greek for better understanding as well. And then you have translation/transcription errors to consider. I personally just don't like the 'thou' and 'thee' aspect.

I guess... haven't been to a "party" in quite some time that didn't involve a bunch of kids arguing over the video game.

FTR, I know the topic decently well.
